My personal best experience was being a part of the NPCC Brunei OEV team in 2017. <del>
</del>Before the team goes to Brunei, the headquarter officers, accompanying teachers and I met with the cadets and gave them a better understand of the educational trip and to get them to know each other better as they were from different schools and were not familiar with one another.
During the process of knowing one another, I knew the importance of creating a safe space for them to learn and to share their thoughts. I was transparent with them about what I felt about the team and I got myself to their level to understand them instead of strictly behaving like the "typical officer". Being an example myself, the team had also naturally warmed up to one another and was always sharing their thoughts (even the tmi one?!) in a short period of time.
During our trip to Brunei, there were times that the cadets had to step up and lead the team alongside with the Brunei cadet which makes a feel of them feel a little shy. I have encouraged them to take a small step and remind them that their team was always behind them and ready to help him/her out if in need.

One of my biggest take away from this trip is that being a leader, a small action can be impactful and empower others to act.

thankyou for listening to my tedtalk!<del>
</del>

One of my best leadership experiences was in primary school when i was given the opportunity as vice captain of my floorball team to lead my team in one of the most challenging matches that my team and i had been through. I spurred the team on through the game and bonded closely with them so that we could have the teamwork and wit to win the game, which at that point was a crucial game for us. In the end, we did win the game and of course all of us were overjoyed. Through the NSG tournament, i also led my team on various other matches and this has taught me the many lessons one has to learn to be a good and inspiring leader but of course there is still plenty for me to learn. It has also taught me how to better bond with my teammates and how teamwork is crucial in not just the matches, but also in our daily life, so that we can progress further together as one team. This key takeaway has made this my best ever leadership experience yet.
Thank you :)

My Personal Best Leadership Experience was in P5, during a 3 night adventure camp. Our team was often split up and had arguments despite the facilitators being there. I knew that someone had to take the lead to solve these problems so that we can continue and do the activities planned for us. I feel like I was able to encourage my peers to learn to work together. One of my biggest takeaways from this trip is that a leader's actions can be very impactful on the whole team and allow the whole team to venture forward and cooperate with each other

This was one of my personal best experiences in terms of leadership. It was in P5 and I was invited to this leadership camp during the school holidays. It was a lot of fun as we learnt many things about leadership and what it means to be a leader. Leaders have many more aspects to them than one might think, like being a servant leader, letting others have chances on being leaders, organising the group, making decisions and communicating well with your teammates, etc. It taught me how communication in a team with the members and is leader is vital for success. I remember that one of the activities was kayaking, and generally our team members were losing at the start. However, I started chanting a little encouragement to my members in they're kayaks, and my buddy in the kayak with me began chanting it with us. Thanks to that, we all pushed ourselves and won the race overall.

My best would prob just be the psl sessions i spent with 1E. They were generally quite noisy so things would never be awkward during activities. Whenever there were activities, they would always make unnecessary comments... but that made it really interesting as our activities could never have been that interesting in the first place. It was hard to quieten them down but times when they were required to listen they would ensure that they understood the message. In the end i got to know them really well bonded quite abit. Getting to have fun while teaching my juniors made this my best leadership experience.

My personal best leadership experience has been helping out for a leadership experience for the primary school students, from P3 -P5, and i was tasked to lead a group by myself. It reminds me of how the SLs led us during the sec 1 camp, and i remember having a lot of fun. It was enriching for me as I was able to learn more about how to lead, listen and act as a role model for the student leaders who i was assigned to, and how to engage them in the various activities we had to organise. One of my fellow student leaders were also assigned, and i learnt how to work well together with others in leading my peers. I was able to connect with the students and not only help them learn important values for their leadership journey but also learn many new things myself , and therefore, it was the most meaningful leadership experience for me.

I think it was during my CCA session, where we were tasked to form a group and a leader in that group to put up a tent. Once we formed our group, no one had stood up to become the leader in the group. I volunteered and it was really making me nervous, as I worried that my team would not finish the job in time. So I started delegating roles to my group members and gave them the allocated time to complete their tasks. My role was to make sure everything was going smoothly and to help others when needed. While doing the task, we encountered some hiccups, where one groupmate couldn't do one part of his task. I immediately went to him to help him out and showed him the way. I think due to my role as a leader in that group, I felt proud that I actively contributed to the task and brought our group to finish the task really fast.

Since all of us were new to the school and secondary life in general, this camp was organised for us to familiarise ourselves to the new environment. All my classmates were new people from different primary schools which I have not met before, hence we made an effort to interact with each other to get to know each other better. The activities in the camp made us bond as a class and gave us our class spirit. The facilitators also gave us opportunities to lead ourselves and the class, such as in working together to create a class cheer or simply leading the class in carrying out activities.
This camp was fulfilling and meaningful as it allowed me to make new friends in my class and allowed us to maintain strong relationships with each other, as well as develop my leadership potential.

I lead my class through this year's Social Innovation project that was given by the school, to organize a short yet engaging online entertainment session that was decided by the class, for seniors at a nursing home, where i got to lead the class and help them get through this project along with the other Social Innovation leaders in the class. Through this project, though there were many obstacles in both the class' willingness to do the project to their best abilities, and communication difficulties as the project information was mainly disseminated through WhatsApp and other similar messaging platforms, we managed to pull through as a class and complete a decent video compilation for the seniors at the nursing home we were assigned to to enjoy. This project taught me a few valuable lessons, such as the importance of proper communication, and also how people might not be willing to join you to complete a task, and you will have to get them to do so either by giving them an incentive to work hard, or to inspire them to join in and work together as a class/group, and there is no point in blindly shouting and scolding them for not chipping into the discussion when they have no motivation to take part in this project.

My personal best experience in leadership was taking part in the SYF as part of Chinese Orchestra this year.
Even before this year, we had spent countless hours preparing with our instructor and also self-practice, which I led. Despite us all playing different instruments with different play-styles, I felt that I was able to teach my fellow section-mates well. I could see that they had made a lot of progress from the year prior, and was constantly acknowledging that. During the days prior, I was giving them small pep-talks to give them confidence. On the day of the SYF, I led my section in a cheer, and inspired them to do the best that they could. We ended up earning 2 distinctions this year, the first ever. This experience, which was crucial for Chinese Orchestra, helped me to develop myself as a leader the greatest, because there were many adversities to fight along the way, such as uncooperative and unconfident section-mates. It has taught me that everything is possible when we work together as a team. This crucial takeaway made it by far my best leadership experience ever.
Thank you! :D

I also showed him around the school and tried to make him more comfortable in the new environment.

To be honest, I don't really think I've had that many leadership experiences over the years. I was a prefect from p1-p6 but I did not have any opportunities to go on learning journeys and other special activities because the teacher never picked me when I volunteered. I learnt through my daily duties that leaders are the ones who keep everything in order, the ones who control and make sure that things don't get too out of hand. Their not meant to be iron-fisted, but are instead meant to be the ones who protect the overall environment and relationships between their peers. Mediation is also a part of this, as I remember the training about peer mediation very clearly. Leaders need to take different points of view from others, and to do this one must keep an open mind in order to listen to and respect others' opinions. My old school had the philosophy of a servant leader, even though it seems contradictory, it is oxymoronic and can be seen as selflessness and willingness to give up your own needs for others. I do not have much leadership experience in Victoria School, but I have been an environmentalist in my class. I learnt that I need to be the one to take the initiative (e.g. using my own container instead of styrofoam ones from the canteen, picking up litter, etc.), so that others around me would be influenced to take the little steps to make the school a more environmentally friendly place. From these small learning experiences along the way, I learnt a lot about how a leader should act in order to motivate others towards a certain cause. They need to cater to everyone in their group so that there won't be any conflict or feelings of unfairness within the group, resulting in discord and argument in their midst. However, this is the ideal for every leader, it will not always be this perfect. When imperfections and fights happen, it is up to the leader to find a way to resolve the conflict, and then overcome the obstacle while finding a compromise that all the people agree on. Otherwise, the project the leader is trying to lead the group mates toward completion would not be able to be completed well, as conflicting views can cause many problems within the group.

It was the first time competiting in a national competition
for most of the junior members of the track and field team.

Many of the juniors were experiencing anxiety and stress and felt unprepared for the competition, I was close to them as I had been training with them for
the past year and could communicate with and encourage them to help regain there confidence a little. I shared my experiences of past competitions with them
and listen to their worries. I learnt the importance of communication as after speaking with the juniors, most of them felt less stress and some even went on
to win medals. This has taught me that ignoring the worries of the juniors would be irresponsible as a senior and I should actively communicate with them.
