In my opinion, the main problem is not from the technical perspective but from the users perspective. In our school, the main problem is to convince our colleagues of the importance of such security measures. For instance, many teachers use USBs for transferring data/files/etc even having several options (e.g., sending files using their institutional email, using the electronic registry that is also a repository of files, etc). Spreading information and good user rules is the main challenge and aim in the Italian school today.

My experiences with malware etc..say that there are two aspects. One from the point of view of the user and the second from the point of view of the technology used (i.e. router, PCs, OS s/w, firewall). If a user (teacher or student) do not take much care on which web site he uses or if he/she uses USB flash drive that is infected then its probable the machine to be infected (if the antvirus is not updated). Technology used is important too. E.g. strong Cisco routers give extra protection to the network. Also, Linux vs. Windows give differents levels of security etc.. Another issue is the chool's network design and architecture (sub-nets division). Thanks for the videos. Sabrina covered nicely and simply the issues.

In my school we use a firewall and a free antivirus that works quite well, obviously, as the great majority of school we have two differentnetwork environments, one for pupils and staff, and the other for administration.

Very interesting and useful videos! They make anyone reflect about the risks connected to the use of any device or our pc at home and at school. I normally use my pc also at school and since it is a macintosh a feel more secure . Above this I normally transfere files and materials by using google drive or our electronic registry or google classroom.Of course we have (at school)two separate computer network environments, one for pupil, staff and parent interactions and the other on a secure server for administration( as said in the video above) I found that the comments of Silvana and Patrizia form Italy define a very similar situation to the one of my school. We have several safety measures like computerized authentication through personal credentials which are different depending the different areas we have to access to. For example if we want to access the electronic registry during the lesson or even from home to upload materials . We do use a different authentication if we want to access computers in the teacher room and to make copies from different materials for example to create tests for our classes. We use google classroom environment with a specific authentication through the domain of the regional office of the educational ministry. Also students have different systems of authentication if they access internet during the lessons from school devices or if they access the google class environment from school or from home. We have also antivirus and firewall. Nevertheless the risks of the intrusion of malware are persistent, as many colleagues and students as well do not really understand the risks related to the use of USBs while transferring datas or files, which could be transferred through google drive or via email from their own computer or smartphone.I think there is still a strong need of awareness of the real importance of a responsible use of security measures. On the other end I agree with Fernando Coelo from Portugal when he says that any system is not completely secure and when he says that ” In ICT and with technology anything can happen so, we need to review policies and settings all the time.”

We have a strong firewall and we use Kaspersky antivirus server managed. According to our policies about documentation management the documents have to be save in Google Drive, so we use the protection Google offers. However it is not easy to change some habits and some people continue saving documents in local or portable drives. We had an incident last year with one teacher who open a ransomware email and couldn’t again access to his documents, the documents he had created along one year. We are aware that the wink link is the person and that we have to push once and again. It’s not enough to offer training one year and think that it is enough for the next 5 years.

The usual way to deal with malware is a firewall blocking but I am not sure if is it updated regularly. Safety strategies have to be followed for safer Ubuntu computing . The situation can be improved with creating a protocol for use of internet, scanning and downloading data, wearing portable devices. Equally important as well is providing training both for teachers and students to аvoid malware.

However, I must admit that as far as security is concerned, we do not have a strong firewall to fight with the problems that might be encountered. My head teacher/ this year want to apply them. Maybe things will change in the next years because a couple of months ago we changed our Head Director. We had Panda and AVG freetools , I prefer AVG but teachers need to be trained to undrstand and learn how to handle with rules round about E-safety (malware and protection off data ...). I think the E-Safety Label project is a very good help in this direction.
