By that time I was trying my best to read, I was use to reading one word books but this book I remember I would always go to the carpet of my classroom and read by the book shelf. This was one of the books I had chose and I remember my teacher walking around the classroom and the moment she was standing next to me she made me read out a sentence to her. Writing my name in my early years of school was challenging for me. I would write the e backwards or mess up some how. I would always say why did I have such a long name. Everyone else had easy names in my class. While my teacher read this book out to the class I related to it so much. It made me feel less iffy about my name. The cover would scare me for some reason. But there was something about it that would have me so into it. I remember my teacher would read it and she added her twist to the book. After when the movie came out it was easy to understand cause I had already read the book. I chose to read this book because 1 of my classmates had bought it and I was intrigued, she lend me the book and I was intimidated at first because that book was thick. I'm like there is no way I am going to read this. I ended up reading about halfway. Stopped reading it for a month and then I just told my friend to tell me how it ends. I remember being confused at first because of all these districts that were being mentioned. But my 8th grade teacher at the time saw me with the book and said that I was really going to like it, that I just had to really analyze the characters. So I read it till the end and I loved it. It seemed so familiar and I was trying to figure out where I had heard of the story before. I then remembered that in 8th grade this was a book my teacher read to us. I'll admit that I didn't pay attention to the book. I would just skim through the pages and do my homework that way. However, in 10th grade when I read this book with my class is was a different experience. For every 2 or so chapters we read my teacher would then play the scenes of the movie and stop it to where we finished off the reading. I wouldn't read books for entertainment or because I wanted to. It was more so because I had to for a class, whether it was a chapter or analyzing a paragraph. When I graduated high school I went straight to college and in those few months when I started up college is when covid hit. My whole world did a 360 and I was suffering mentally. I didn't know what to do, I had constant panic attacks, which at the time I didn't know that it was panic attacks. I ended up in the hospital because I felt like I couldn't breathe or just be on my own. I remember one night I was like I need something that is going to have my mind thinking about other things that are more calming. For one of my classes in Kingsborough, I had to choose a book to read to my class through zoom. It was very weird and intimidating to do so. But as for the book itself i really enjoyed it. This made me realize why I want to be a teacher and have kids of my own to read too.
