During the Sengoku period, samurai were always at the center of power. Especially during the Edo period, when there were no wars, one of the high-ranking samurai had armor to show their status.

Kabuki is a traditional Japanese form of theater that combines music, dance, and drama.

Costumes are very important because they show the character’s role and emotions.

The kimonos in this exhibition were worn by Bandō Tamasaburō V. He is currently the most popular and famous onnagata, a male actor who plays female roles in Kabuki.

Among the costumes,

I like this black kimono with white cranes and flowing water patterns.
It is very elegant and powerful at the same time.
The cranes symbolize longevity and good fortune in Japanese culture, so I think this kimono expresses both beauty and meaning.
