You only need to respond one of the times you read this week. Please focus on the author's craft of word usage. Share descriptive words or figurative language - like similes, metaphors, personification - the author has used. Explain... 1) Why you think the author used these specific words and 2) How using these words impacted you as a reader. REMEMBER: your name, title, author. LOOK FOR THE EXAMPLE I WROTE ON THIS PAGE TO HELP YOU...I look forward to reading your entry. Mrs. Cannon

The Castaway by Edward Roth

On page 62, the author wrote that "the ocean was as smooth as glass". This simile helped me visualize how motionless the water was. I think the author did this to show that nothing and no one had been on it for a long time. It was slick like glass and probably so still that it reflected the sky above it. Then on page 63, I really liked when the author wrote that "It was like looking out into a void". I know void means nothingness, so I can just imagine how lonely it was on that island, and I realize that I would not want to be there. Mr. Roth chose these words because he wanted to make sure the reader knew how isolated Daniel really was!

This guy was saying People were invading other peeps villages, and k-i-l-l-i-n-g people. So then the princess smelt smoke. Then... JOHN CENA!!! a bull came in was ramming into people! And people were screaming bloody murder! People pulling out swords, and sliding people throats! Animals Biting and scratching EVERYWHERE! and of course death, and blood. So then I decided to not abandon the book, very detailed. :)

I found some word usage on page 136, because it says, "And henceforth, there shall be no consolation amongst teammates." I think those words are word usage.
This book is very detailed. I like how both teams are winning. That adds a lot to a book, because if team Kyle's team was always winning, that wouldn't be interesting, and personally would make me probably abandon the book, so I think it's good that they made the scores close. In the beginning, it was not very interesting, but the middle is most interesting now. I wonder if it's because the Library Olympics has started. I like how the book is a change from the books that I write, because I say "I said" not, "Kyle said". I like that change in the book.
I like how they have holographic people who help, because that makes the book more interesting, and exciting, because you always wonder what would happen if the holographic people came to life, or over heard something, or was just bad. Like it wasn't the right person.
I don't like how people are trying to stop Mr. Lemoncello from doing these olympic games. I don't get why they WANT to do it.
People need to be better sports.
I like how the end of Chapter 1 says: "When they found out that becoming famous TV stars was the prize that 5 kids had won during a game at Mr. Lemoncello's incredible new library in Alexadriaville, Ohio- A game that they hadn't been invited to play- They demanded a rematch." That makes the book intense, and gets me ready.
I like how on page 165, they say, "'Hurry,' Said Sierra 'I think some of the other teams just figured it out, too'" Chris Grabenstein made sure that he showed not told, in his words. I think this showed word usage.

The name fits him. Also I find it weird that Nefarious got into S.P.Y.D.E.R.'s spy school. The dude wants to be evil because his name is Nefarious! Also, I wonder this because Ashley said you have to be the best of the best to be in their spy school-then why did Nefarious get in? I can't wait to learn more about Nefarios. Whhy is Ashley sneaking out? also, I think Ashley and Nefarious are always watching Ben.
