After doing this task, it showed me that while AI can quickly summarize IT concepts, human analysis adds deeper insights to it like real-world examples, metaphors (e.g., the currant bun), and practical trade-offs. This is because AI needs very specific prompts to match this depth.

I also learnt that IT’s core idea is “meaning over words.” Interpreters don’t just translate, they first have to understand, then "forget" the exact words, and finally rephrase naturally. This ensures the audience feels the message, not just hears it.

This tasked show me how while AI can help in summarizing concepts, it cannot properly used metaphor, like the currant bun, unless prompted. Overall, I learnt that 'sense' is important in interpreting and understanding the 'meaning' only is not enough. In another word, target audience is as important as target language.

Using AI to support my learning of the Interpretive Theory (IT) has been incredibly helpful and eye-opening. Before using AI, I had a general understanding of the article, but some parts were confusing, especially the technical terms and abstract concepts like “deverbalization” and “sense.” After inputting my questions and prompts, AI was able to break down the article into simple, easy-to-understand language. It also provided clear examples that helped me connect the theory to real-life situations.

Not only it summarise information, it also helps me understand this task better in my own level of proficiency and pace.

The knowledge that I got from this task is that we need to know about "sense" and "word meaning" in interpreting. I found that interpreting not only translating the literal meaning of a text or a speech, but translating involves the intention, tone, and cultural context of a text or a speech. In that sense, translating is more than just translating but it involves conveying and understanding the meaning. It is for the audience to relate and understand the message better.

One significant lesson I took away from this exercise was that AI can divide complicated academic theories into more manageable explanations, which helped me understand the main ideas of Interpretive Theory. By comparing my notes with the AI explanation, I was also able to identify any potential gaps. After completing the comparison, I learned that interpretive theory focuses on expressing the speaker's meaning rather than word interpretation. As a result, interpreters can translate between languages more fluently and naturally.

Comparing my answers with AI’s version also helped me catch things I missed and understand the ideas better. Next, I learned about interpretive theory and the idea of deverbalization. It means that once the interpreter understands what the speaker is saying, they let go of the exact words and focus on the meaning instead. That way, they can say it more naturally in the other language instead of just translating word by word.

One thing I've observed while doing this task is how organized it is to do my notes. With questions that are specific, it's easier for me to take down important information, which then helps me to easily grasp what Interpretive Theory is without reading a whole paragraph. In a way, this task gave me the realization that I need to start changing the way I do my notes, and I should also try and use AI to make my note taking and analysis much quicker and easier. In the reading material, one thing that stuck to me the most is 'sense'. As an interpreter, it is important to have 'sense' because understanding the meaning of a message won't be enough to actually be able to deliver the intended message.

While comparing my notes with the AI output, I realised that the AI output uses easy language and simplifies the answer, while some of mine are just taken directly from the text. Next, one knowledge about IT that I gained after doing the analysis is that Interpretive Theory (IT) focuses on the idea of “sense”, which is the full meaning behind what is said, not just the words themselves. However, after doing the analysis, I realized IT is way deeper than that.

What I've observed from this task is my appreciation for using a timetable template, which serves as a valuable guide to help me comprehend the IT article. Without this template, I find it challenging to fully grasp the content of the IT article I’ve read. Additionally, this task requires a comparative timetable between my response and that of the AI. This comparison highlights that the AI’s responses are often simpler than mine, as I tend to complicate my writing. While I understand the theory, I prefer the simplicity and clarity of the AI’s responses.

One knowledge I've gained about IT is the significance of effectively conveying the intended message. This process is not simple, as it involves three stages: Comprehension, Deverbalization, and Reformulation. By successfully navigating these stages, the output or translation can be confidently communicated. Moreover, the metaphor of the "currant bun" helps clarify the differences between 'correspondence' and 'equivalence,' ultimately aiding in conveying the intended message.

Observation:

I learned that how you explain something depends on who you're talking to. The same information can be understood and communicated in vastly different ways depending on the audience and purpose. My notes used simple words and funny examples because I was thinking like a student trying to understand. The AI used big academic words because it was being formal. This is exactly what IT teaches - don't just copy what someone said, figure out what they meant and then say it in a way that makes sense to whoever is listening.

Knowledge Gained About IT:

IT is really about forgetting the words and remembering the ideas. I used to think interpreters just had to be really good at languages. But now I see that the hard part is actually letting go of the original words completely and rebuilding the message from scratch. It's like taking apart a Lego house and building a completely different house that does the same job - you're not copying the blocks, you're copying what the house was supposed to do.

My personal interpreting experience provided practical understanding, while AI contributed structured explanations with historical context and concrete examples. The most comprehensive understanding comes from combining human experiential knowledge with AI's systematic detail.

I gained appreciation for how AI can enhance my analytical process by filling gaps I hadn't considered. While I understood IT's practical applications from experience, AI helped me see the broader academic landscape - including specific scholarly criticisms and more extensive applications beyond my direct experience. This taught me that AI serves as an excellent research partner to expand perspective and develop more well-rounded analyses.

Having clear prompts allows me to focus on the most important information, which helps me grasp the concept of Interpretive Theory without having to read long paragraphs. This made me realize that I need to change the way I take notes in the future. I should also start using AI tools to make my note-taking and analysis faster and more efficient.

From the reading material, what stood out to me the most was the concept of "sense." As an interpreter, it is not enough to simply understand the meaning of a message; one must also capture its sense to accurately convey the intended message to the audience.

Observation: While comparing my own analysis with the AI’s version, I noticed something really important about how we approach learning. When I first read about Interpretive Theory (IT), I was mostly focused on remembering the steps (comprehension, deverbalization, reformulation) and who created it. But when I looked at how the AI explained it, especially how it used clearer examples and more structured definitions, I realized I missed some layers. For example, the AI connected the theory more strongly with things like cultural background, speaker intention, and the difference between form and meaning. That really opened my eyes. So my main takeaway here is that sometimes, even if you think you understood something, seeing it presented from another angle, especially a more structured one, helps you reflect and improve your understanding. It made me realize that the “sense” we interpret is not just based on words, but on everything surrounding those words: who said it, where, to who, and why. That’s a big deal in communication.

Knowledge: Before this, I honestly thought interpreting was just about being really fast at translating words from one language to another. But after doing this analysis, I now understand that Interpretive Theory is way more human than that. It’s not just about speed or accuracy of words, it’s about making sure the message and intention behind those words are fully understood by the listener. One key concept that changed my whole view was the idea of “sense”, like, how IT teaches interpreters to focus on the overall idea (the “bun”) and not just the exact words used (the “raisins”). That bun-and-raisin analogy really helped me see how important it is to transfer meaning, not just language. I also didn’t know how much background knowledge and context matters when interpreting. The AI mentioned things like culture, setting, and the speaker’s purpose, all of which influence how the message should be interpreted. That made me realize that IT isn’t just useful in spoken interpreting, but also in translation, subtitling, and even in AI tools like the one I’m using now. So overall, I gained a much deeper appreciation for the role of understanding, context, and human judgment in making interpretation truly effective.

I learned that Interpretive Theory (IT) focuses on meaning than just words. Comparing my notes with AI's output made my notes and understanding simpler and complex for my reference. Now, I understand that IT delivers the sense or real meaning of a message. It is beyond that just translating word-by-word which makes communication much clearer and effective across languages. This shows that interpreters need background knowledge to translate by understanding and expressing it naturally.
