I would say I feel most mortal when sick or injured. Having a constant reminder that I'm not always in perfect condition is the ultimate humbling.

I feel the most human when I drive. Mostly on the freeway when I'm going fast. I can feel every jolt and small shift of the wheel and it just attaches me really close to the moment.

When do you feel the least human?

I feel the most mortal/human when I find out I am wrong about something I was sure I was right about. I feel like the rug has been pulled out from under my feet, not that I was wrong but that I had relied on something false. It makes me feel lost.

I feel most mortal when I mess up, and especially when that mistake is public and picked on--when I forget to bring bags to pick up my dog's poop and there's someone watching me with judgement, or when my mom looks over my shoulder as I sew, commenting things like "make sure you hold it against the line," and "ooh, you pinned that wrong." I'm mortal when I use chili powder instead of cinnamon in my cake. I'm mortal when I cry in the shower. Mortality is mixed up in re-dos and revisions, but that's probably when we're most present. What kinds of things make you "live in the present?" (Sorry to use a cliche)

I feel the most human when I get so angry that I act uncharacteristically. I say this because even while it is happening, I am conscious of what I am doing but it's as if my emotions have their own correct logic and I have no choice but to obey. This does not happen very often, maybe one or two times a year, but they feel very human/mortal.

The use of the word mortal seems to suggest the question is trying to search for an answer that explains when you feel closest to death. I think that's an interesting idea, being close to death that is. This idea is one of the oldest religions. One who believes in this act differently. Perhaps more irrationally, usually more intentionally. Some have faith and some deny this faith. The heretics spend their whole pronouncing the deadness of this God. Standing on stacks of trees died green, and building their towers of babel. Building up to their anti-Christ, the un-mortal. They believe more violently the older they get till they un-believe their immortal spirit out of their body.
