How does the author use dictation effectively? (Maggie)

Satrapi uses diction effectively by using words like "trembling" (Satrapi 140/1) and "suffering" (Satrapi 142/5) to convey the terror and utter devastation that Marji witnesses in Iran. By using these vivid words, readers can better understand how Marji feels.

1. How does the author indicate a change in one of the characters? (Nicole)

The author indicates change through the main character, Marji, in which she expresses how the changes from the war effect her life and where she lives in her society. Her visages express the negative and positive reactions from this change and shows the convoluted revolution and its growth over the effects of the war.

4. How is the role of religion in this book similar to that of your own community? How is it different? (Maggie)

The role of religion in my community is similar to the book because in western culture, there are also a lot of people who are very religious and devout in their faith. However, in the book, the government and schools are very religious, while in America schools and the government are kept secular.

5. In what ways is the family in the book similar to yours? How is it different? (Kaitlyn)

My family is quite similar to Marjis family. For one both of her parents only want what is best for her, just like mine. They both will fight for our future and our safety. Our families are also quite different, unlike Marjis who is an only child, i have two younger siblings. This means unlike Marji my sisters learn from me and look up to me rather than my parents.

6. What similarities and differences can you identify between the politics of the Middle East and those in our country? (Kaitlyn)

The middle east ans the US are both very similar and very different. The US and the Middle Eastern politics are driven by different things. The US is secular, unlike the Middle East who are driven by religion. One thing that both of our governments have in common US adversity. There are so many different views and opinions in both regions and both often generate violent arguments from their disagreements.

Which technique seems the most siccessful in revealing the turmoil of the changes in the society? (Nicole)

The technique I thought that seemed most successful in revealing the turmoil of the changes in the society were the faces of the characters because their expressions showed the characters direct actions, revealing the different aspects from the changes caused by the effects of the changes caused by the war.
