If I had to pick one artwork to represent Filipino art to the world, I would choose “R.R. Landon” by Jose Mari Picornell. This painting beautifully captures the essence of Filipino culture and history through its depiction of old, dilapidated house fronts. It shows the charm and nostalgia of traditional Filipino architecture that once filled our streets a reminder of our identity and heritage slowly fading with modernization. The artwork communicates a deep message about remembering and valuing our past before it disappears. Picornell’s impressionist style, using oil on canvas, gives life and emotion to ordinary scenes. The soft colors and brushstrokes reflect the warmth and simplicity of Filipino life, while the worn-down buildings symbolize resilience and the passage of time. "R.R. Landon” is not just a painting; it is a story of who we are as Filipinos people who cherish history, culture, and home even amid change.

Amorsolo’s use of bright colors and warm light shows the beauty of the Philippine countryside and reminds us how rich and full of life our land is. It also shows how people and nature live together in peace showing the strong bond Filipinos have with their environment.

Aside from its beautiful view, the painting also shows the unity, patience, and hard work of the Filipino people.
If I had to choose one artwork to represent Filipino art to the world, I would choose “Spoliarium” by Juan Luna. The Spoliarium powerfully communicates the Filipino struggle against oppression. It shows fallen gladiators being dragged away after battle, symbolizing how Filipinos, during Spanish colonization, suffered and were stripped of dignity and freedom. Even without words, the painting’s dark tones, strong lighting, and emotional realism express pain, courage, and the fight for justice.

if i were to choose a painting i will choose this. The project features people wearing elaborate, creature-like costumes made from repurposed domestic and industrial plastic waste. It is a direct response and parody of Humans of New York, which presents portraits of people on the streets of New York. Leeroy New uses discarded materials like colanders, cable ties, and plastic food covers to construct the sculptures, reflecting a sustainable practice born out of necessity in the Philippines. The series comments on the marginalization of certain groups within the urban landscape. It speaks to the experience of cultural displacement, particularly those with family in the OFW phenomenom .It calls attention to the experiences of Overseas Filipino Workers, who are an essential but often invisible workforce, particularly those in healthcare and personal care in Canada.

I would choose Victorio Edades' The Builders (1928) to represent Filipino art to the world because of its profound communication of a modern national identity and its mastery of groundbreaking technique. The artwork's primary communication is its celebration of the Filipino working class and the theme of national development, depicting laborers with powerful, almost Cubist-like figures to emphasize their dignity, strength, and importance to the nation's future. Its significance lies in its bold break from the romantic, idyllic style that previously dominated Filipino art, signalling a Filipino artistic tradition that is progressive, intellectually engaged, and socially conscious. Technically, the painting is a masterful example of early Filipino Modernism. Edades utilizes a somber, earthy color palette and rough, textured paint application (impasto), which gives the work a solid, serious weight that perfectly matches the theme of construction and labor. The geometric simplification and distortion of the figures creates a monumental effect, while their tightly packed composition and the strong rhythm established by their tools and limbs demonstrate a powerful technical command that makes the artwork feel dynamic and eternally relevant.
