Many of these nurse managers are great at their job, but lag behind in technology. This article proves that this is true. There are many alerts that can be put into place in EHRs, however this is a double-edged sword due to the alert/alarm fatigue that plagues many healthcare workers. Disadvantages discusssed include that the visit often becomes more about documentation, and less about the actual patient. It argues that CDS systems provide a way to decrease the information overload for clinicians, and increase the ability to integrate evidence based knowledge into clinical decision making.
