1. What I knew about painting before taking the module:

Before taking the module, I recall thinking that paintings were beautiful, but not comprehensively appreciating them. To me, paintings were either for hobbies or for decor purposes. They were simply brush strokes forming art that were translated onto a canvas.

2. What I learned in the module about the form of painting as a Fine Art:

Upon taking the module, I learned to appreciate painting more. One thing I found very interesting is a technique artists use to create the illusion of space: the foreground, middle ground, and background. These three planes add depth and interest to the painting by allowing more elements to be integrated into the work. I also learned about "value" through the use of brighter colors, which is used to highlight certain points in a painting, or to create balance within them. The paintings intrigued me, especially when I was taught about their forms in the Renaissance and in the Baroque era, because now, they had a story (mainly religious) behind them.
To conclude, I realised that a lot of thought and effort goes into these works of art. Paintings, in general, are complex, beautiful, and aren’t made just for the sake of being made.

3. What else I would like to learn about painting as a Fine Art:

I'd like to learn more about modern painting being made today. I'd like to see the differences between the paintings now and the paintings then. I want to see whether the artists of today are still inspired by works of the past or if they integrated new techniques.
