Interpreting Leaders Reflection

I was able to place a characteristic for each person under each of the categories. It makes sense that these people are considered good leaders in my eyes. Most of my characteristics fell under the category of relationship management. I am not surprised by this because it takes establishing positive relationships before people will respect and listen to you.

Recognizing My Power

I think a key to making any kind of professional growth is taking the time to reflect on what you have done and how far you have come. This is definitely true with leadership. I can see how some people may become "power hungry" if they do not stop and think about what they are doing and how it is affecting other people.
I think a lot of my leadership traits boil down to how I was raised and my firm belief in "old-fashioned" roots. My dad has been in upper management his whole career and I have learned a lot about leading people through him. I have found his stories and experiences very helpful in the classroom and appreciate having his take on things.
As I look at my chart, I cannot help but think how differently this chart would have looked if I was still teaching at my former district. Again, I find it somewhat difficult to find leadership opportunities in my current placement. Therefore, most of my chart is filled with leadership roles I have directly in my classroom with paras, students, and parents.

My power is very short when it comes to leadership. I want to solve the problem right away and be done with it. I lack the habit to follow through no matter what. Usually the way good leaders use their power is before the problem starts. It is just a little problem but is seen by the leader. That leader can then be proactive and talk with colleges or call a meeting to find out solutions. I feel we all have an ability to be leaders, many of us have tried and failed too many times. I feel beat down when it comes to trying to change large school wide procedures or problems. Getting back to my roles or groups, I don't feel power in any of the groups. I feel our Science group shares the power of the group well, so that is a good unified approach.
