Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper. ... It was commissioned by Duke Ludovico Sforza for the refectory of the monastery of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan, and in order to paint it Leonardo used an oil/tempera mix and applied it to a dry wall. 

Techniques

One important technical fact that has been known for centuries is that The Last Supper was not painted using traditional fresco technique (watercolour and egg-tempera on moist plaster) but with an experimental oil-based medium

Jan van Eyck was an Early Netherlandish painter active in Bruges. He is often considered one of the founders of Early Netherlandish painting and one of the most significant representatives of Northern Renaissance art.

Van Eyck painted both secular and religious subject matter, including altarpieces, single panel religious figures and commissioned portraits. His work includes single panels, diptychs, triptychs, and polyptych panels. He was well paid by Philip, who sought that the painter was secure financially and had artistic freedom and could paint "whenever he pleased". Van Eyck's work comes from the international glitch style, but he soon eclipsed it, in part through a greater emphasis on naturalism and realism. Through his developments in the use of oil paint he achieved a new level of virtuosity. Van Eyck was highly influential and his techniques and style were adopted and refined by the Early Netherlandish painters.

He carved the Statute like many of the other statues he carved in Florence. He left Florence, quickly went to Venice, Bologna and then to Rome, where a cardinal commissioned him to make a statue into a Roman Chapel.

About the artist, Michelangelo, born on 6th March 1475 and died on 18 February 1564, was a sculptor living in Florence for a long time, he built many sculptures of which he did not make much revenue from. Michelangelo's exact job description for the project was to create "the most beautiful work of marble in Rome, one that no living artist could better."
Michelangelo named his sculpture the Pieta because It depicts the dead body of Jesus after his crucifixion. Michelangelo was deeply religious and the Pieta is an expressive piece that was clearly inspired by his deep and abiding faith.
