Houses were often very small with lack of basic services like proper waste disposal, clean water and toilets. They housed up to thirty people in situations where 10 people are squeezed into one tiny room with no proper ventilation. Different Social Classes were treated differently based on their status, and often the lower class like coolies were treated as such with very poorly built houses. Housing is now inclusive and have amends being made constantly to meet the satisfaction of homeowners.
Singapore's major housing category is public housing. It was offered by the government to citizens of Singapore as a housing option for citizens who wish to own their own house in the 1950s. Ever since, the amount of HDB's being built have been on a rise and on high demand due to the country's population.
Subsidies have been offered by the government to those who are unable to pay of their housing bills without being debted.
