How does the burmese python affect the everglades. The burmese pythons affect the everglade by laying a lot of eggs. The burmese python can lay 50-100 eggs (video 1). Also the burmese python is eating all the animals and it has no natural pray. It states in the video that the burmese python is eating raccoons, foxes, bobcats and other animals. Did you know that the burmese pythons is a vishes hunter. The burmese python has heat sensors on its jaw and back carving teeth and squeezes its prey in tell it dies and then swallows it hole i found this information on (page 44). This is why we need to stop the burmese python in the everglades.

Secondly, the presence of the Burmese Python is completely man made, we know this because on page 44, it says “that people have gotten these snakes as pets but when they got larger and they couldn’t handle it no more so they let them free into the wild. Also, these snakes are at the top of the food chain too, we know this because on video 1, it states that the Burmese python is at the top and there is no other predator to eat it, therefore it eats every bit of wildlife it encounters with in the Florida everglades.

One important fact about how the pythons are changing the everglades is because of their amazing hunting skills. Their population is growing rapidly. In video 1, it stated that each python can lay up to 100 eggs everyday. Also, they are eating machines. In the Florida everglades, they have no natural predators, so they are killing off all of the other animals. (page 44) Lastly, the climate in Florida is similar to their native climate. The snake’s home is Southeast Asia, which has an alike climate to the everglades. Just make sure you are never dinner for these invasive snakes.

Lastly, every year there is a python challenge to stop the spread of the Burmese python because of the reckless environment danger that it causes. Video one showed me that the men\women that are competing in this challenge are taught how it works, they teach the people how to handle the snake, how when they cause this danger it's not specifically there fault, and they have to understand the snake. Also the win is big dollars, if a team catches the most snakes they get 4,000 dollars if a team catches the longest snake they also get 4,000 dollars all together you could win a sum of 8,000 dollars. Crazy! Finally the dates of when the Python challenge goes on, it starts January first and goes until February third. The Python challenge really helps the lowege of the Burmese python and saves the Florida everglades.

They have a 1500 cash prize for whoever hunts and kills the most Burmese pythons. Also found on page 45, a 1000 cash prize for whoever kills the longest snake. Also there can’t just be random people randomly killing the python. You have to be trained before you enter the challenge I saw in video 1. There are definitely some dangers in hunting the python, it isn’t easy. It’s 30 days of hundreds of people running around, armed with shotguns and powerful pythons running around.

Burmese Pythons are an invasive species that are becoming a problem in the Florida everglades. The presence of this snake is majorly impacting the wildlife. The text states on page 44 “ these eating machines appear to be wiping out huge numbers of opossums, raccoons, and bobcats, as well as many bird species.” Video 1 also mentioned a severe decline of mammals. Because nothing is stopping them the situation continues. The book on page 45 and in video 1 talks about how Burmese Pythons are an Apex predator with no natural threats. Not only is there nothing there to stop them but this python problem is quickly increasing. Also stated in video 1 pythons can lay up to 100 eggs at once. So if you ever find yourself in the Florida everglades keep an eye out and watch your step.

Secondly the Burmese python is not originally from the Florida everglades, it is an invasive species. The Burmese python has no natural predators, which makes the python an apex predator (video 1). The snake has also lowered the animal population in the Florida everglades. Including, deers, bunnies, raccoons, alligators (Video 1). Another reason they are an invasive species is because owners buy them and don’t suspect anything until the snake becomes much larger than before it was when it was purchased. The pet owners then let them go into the wild, resulting in this big situation of the Burmese population rising as a invasive species (pg.45). Keep your eyes peeled for the dangerous Burmese python.

People can keep these snakes as pets they can train there snakes not to attack so they can have them as pets. “The snakes can grow pretty fast, docile, neat.” page 44 It is easy to see that this snake is one-of-a-kind

Finally, the people of Florida have found a solution to this problem by creating The Python challenge. First of all, the challenge can be extremely dangerous. The text says, “...If you happen to be in the area, be sure to wear a bulletproof vest.” (Pg. 45). Also, seeing that the Python challenge can be dangerous the state of Florida has set up a program to show the people interested in participating in this challenge what to do in the everglades. On page 46 of the text, it states, “.. you will learn from experts how to identify, handle, and harvest these giant snakes.”. Lastly, another reason why Florida started the Python challenge is because they are affecting the ecosystem of the Florida everglades ecosystem and they wanted to raise awareness for this problem. In the year 2012 the USGS took a experiment that saw a disappearance in small rodents and that the everglades were not as inhabited as they were 30 years ago. The Python challenge helps raise awareness to everyone that this problem has gotten out of hand.
