Technology is really a big part of our life, it made our life easier. However, there’s also a lot of disadvantages. In Sherry Turkle’s “Connected, but alone” she explained about how technology affected us and our life.

One point she explained in her talk is that the small devices are controlling us, even the smallest devices are so powerful to the point that it changes who we are. She also said that a lot of people use their cellular phone during board meetings, classes, presentations, and others, I am guilty of that, I also use my cellphone during classes.

She also stated that we are being together while not being together. I agree to that statement because I experienced it also. My friends and I had a sleepover for us to have our bonding time but when we arrived at my friend’s house, we connected to their internet wifi and we started using our phones. So what’s the use of being together right?

In terms of communication, I also agree to her that it made our communication easier. I cannot deny it, if we need to tell something to a person we can send them a text, we don’t need to go to their houses. But I also realized that having a face to face communication is better because we can see if they are really interested or if they are really paying attention to us. For example, your special someone texted you saying “I miss you,” do you think it is really sincere? Or it will be better if your special someone went to your house and said I missed you personally?

Even though there is a lot of disadvantages of technology, we cannot deny the advantages it offers to make our life easier and we benefit from. Let us all be a responsible user.
