This is a good point and a real problem. In my own opinion the best way to fix this problem is to give the students more homework and test, online or on paper, but not allow them any type of aid.

I feel like we should be teaching our students to not be so dependent on calculators and things that make it easier for them to get answers, like google. I would use a lot of paper and make them work things out like we had to do in Elementary grades.

A great way to fix this problem as a teacher is to start having them do work without using technology so they won't have to rely on it all the time. So when it comes to the things like math they can do the problems without calculators.

The best way to combat the need to always use calculators is to not let students use calculators for things they do not need to. Yes, there are some problems that are hard without a calculator, but they are doable. Making sure that students do not start to overuse calculators will stop the dependency on calculators.

This is a major issue in a large amount of schools around the United States. With this being said, when observing in Mrs.Eason's 4th grade classroom this past semester, I have never seen her allow students any kind of access to a calculator. Especially when it comes to learning math basics, I believe this is vital. It is also a great way to combat this issue.
