Walt Disney was an American motion-picture and television producer and showman, famous as a pioneer of cartoon films and as the creator of Disneyland. Disney was one of five children, four boys and a girl. He lived most of his childhood in Marceline, Missouri, where he began drawing, painting and selling pictures to neighbors and family friends.

In 1937 Walt Disney produced Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the first ever full-length animated feature film. It was also full colour and the first ever film to use Disney’s new cel-animation technique to such an extraordinary extent. In 2010, 37 years later, Walt Disney Studios released its 50^th feature length animated film, Tangled. Based on the story of Rapunzel, Tangled is similar to Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in that it is also an adaptation of a classic European fairytale; in fact both are based on Brothers Grimm fairytales. Tangled also had a three year production but this time the challenges faced by the artists were how to best utilise computer-generated and 3D animation techniques to create the characters and world of the film.

The Beginning of Pixar

Pixar originally started in 1979 as the Graphics Group, a part of the Computer Division of Lucasfilm. The group primarily worked on computer hardware. It was acquired by Apple co-founder Steve Jobs in 1986. The studio pursued its dream of creating the first computer animated feature length film. In 1995, Pixar releasedToy Story, to universal acclaim. (The Walt Disney Company later acquired Pixar in 2006.)
