My idea for my next teaching and learning publication

Future directions for this body of work include applying for ethical approval to conduct surveys / workshops with our students (and module coordinators) to understand their perceptions of research and whether or not they find these data generated here a useful tool for their learning. This could possibly be conducted in a manner similar to Gerda et al., (2012) “Relating academics' ways of integrating research and teaching to their students' perceptions” or Healy et al., (2010) “The research–teaching nexus: a case study of students' awareness, experiences and perceptions of research”.

These data generated in this study also gives me as a teacher a chance to review my curriculum in terms of inclusiveness for both teaching approaches and assessment, I can reassess how module learning outcomes are achieved. This may also be a useful tool for other module coordinators in our programme.

Getting Started and Targeting a journal

Rationale for Target Journal.
I have chosen Studies in Higher Education. To do this I performed a search in Scopus initially using the terms; research teaching nexus, this yielded limited results so then I also added "curriculum" and searched under "medicine" and related subjects. This gave me 6 journals which I then looked at in journalmetrics.scopus.com to try and rank them. By examining their aims and scope I narrowed this list down by excluding journals who asked for topics such as the following, "international articles/policy/strategic management".

Two sample papers from Journal
See pdfs above

My Guidelines
1. review models for integrating research into teaching
2. further investigate controversies in the area, is there actually a relationship
between teaching and research ? 3. curriculum map / align our 7 programme models to the Healy and Jenkins model
4. identify areas of our curriculum for attention in possible need of attention
5. create a blueprint for linking / integrating research and teaching for both staff and students

Theoretical Framework
Educational concepts and definitions
My educational question is if our curriculum is comprehensively covered in all the 4 quadrants of the Healey Jenkins Pedagogical model. Are other models useful, i.e constructive alignment ?
The exercise will involve performing a curriculum mapping exercise.
Models for linking teaching and research will be discussed and probed, e.g how useful is the H&J model for
STEM subjects ? Can it be adapted to a more suitable model ?
Do our means of content delivery and assessment cover students as audience and participants ?
Literature Review
