Ever since his parents died, and he was cast into a world of mystery and magic, he was forced to fend for himself. His self confidence and self reliance is astounding when examining the dangerous and difficult tasks he had to complete with hardly any support. Even his foster family saw him as a fool and a nuisance. Forged by his own sheer will, Harry Potter represents self reliance because his surroundings (betrayal of companions, enemies stronger than him, horrible teachers, etc) led to his ability to rely on himself in the face of adversity.
