This is the business that Carnegie was supposed to go into. Poverty affected him on a personal level, so this fueled the fire to make something of himself. He worked entire life earning the skills to build a mass business. By the time the 1870s came around, he entered the steel business.  As time passed, the business was changed by the new steel refining process called the Bessemer process to convert huge batches of iron into steel, which was much more flexible than brittle iron.
