Many things affect a childs development such as religion, sexual orientation, gender identitiy, culture, and economic background. Many religions believe in different things. For example, Seventh Day Adventist celebrates sabbath every Friday night at sunset until Saturday night at sunset. Gender also matters because boys are typically expected to be more manly whereas girls are not. Economic status matters because that means that you would be eating either healthier meals or not so healthy. It also changes the schooling you recieve.

In order for the country to overcome racial issues, it needs to start with our children. Teaching the children to accept and understand other cultures helps for them be able to befriend others with different cultures. From the beginning, if a child sees their parent being racist, or making racist slurs, they are then taught to believe the same thing. This is where implicit biases and cultural competence comes to play.
