1974
This court case addressed the fact that language programs are needed for educational opportunities to be equal amongst all students.

I think this event is important today because it gives rights to the language learners in our education system. It gives them a law to reference when they feel that services that are needed are not being met. It gives power to the people.

2001
This law held schools accountable for test scores produces by their students. It penalized schools that did not show improvement.

I think this event is important today because it brought to attention the inequality in testing for EBs. EBs were required to take exams in English, and this negatively affected the school districts they were enrolled in.

2015
This act replaced NCLB. It provided grants to states to improve the quality of their educational system. The goal was to have less federal involvement in public schools and give more power back to the states and local districts.

I think this act is important because it gave more funding to schools with low income families in order for them to have more opportunities in the public education system. It also allowed schools to make choices that were right for their students instead of having to follow a one size fits all federal program.

2016
This allowed states to choose how they service EBs based on their states' needs. They have multiple standards to choose from, or they can create their own based on federal regulation.

I think this event is important because it is making a statement that states know what their EB population needs and can make decisions that will be in their best interest.
