Donating is not only social but also religious. It's an essential cultural pillar, too. Sharing is one of the most important thing people use to maintain dialog, peace, love and harmony between them. I use it with my students by organizing donation events in the school (students bring all their garments they no longer wear that are still in good shape to donate them to the needy ones), the hospitals (blood donation, giving soap and detergents to women who have just delivered) and collecting money for their peers who have problems of health, catering, clothing and transportation fees. Donating helps nourish one's soul and develop empathy between individuals living in the same community.

In early 1998, there was a gold-collecting campaign to repay its debt to the International Monetary Fund. About 3.51 million people nationwide involved this campaign, and collected about 227 tons of gold worth &2.13 billion. 
However, in the daily life, students have few chances to learn about donation. Unlike western culture, Koreans are not used to donating money in the daily life.
My school alumni started donating campaign and establish the first high school in Republic of Burundi in 2018. I hope this inspires students to follow their alumni's footsteps.

This group are all teachers-to-be, and initially started teaching English in the local jail. Curiously our classroom was the chapel, because they said we would be safe there.The interns were happy to receive us, and we taught them English through playful learning with games and songs. In 2017 there was trouble in the jail, so we switch to teaching the police officers. The 911 division needed English, in case a foreigner in trouble would call. So we trained them with useful language for those special cases. During pandemic we stopped, but in 2022 we started volunteering again, this time with police officers who belonged to touristic areas of our province. And this will go on, as long as someone wants to learn English for free, with a great team of teachers! This is real service to the community.

The pictures were sent by the Embassy of the US in Argentina, who previously asked us if we would agree to show them.

My students were very engaged in helping those students with homework and playing with them. Also they collected money and donated to them (for building a new fence) and they prepared a donating campaign- colected and donated goods for those childern. In the past, this was not a common practice. I am an Access alumnus and it was in the program that I started to get engaged with doing volunteer work. My students are encouraged to create small projects to help their community.

I like to foster this type of activities in my classroom because I see them as a win-win.  It is about finding a balance between the assignments from the school and the extra projects.

Kids learn about the government. However, I would say a practical approach is needed for the students to internalize the content and adquire valuable experiences, rather than just reading a textbook. In our English classrooms in the Access program in Guatemala, we try to implement classroom community roles so that students get a tast of what is like to have a task in a community. They are responsible for a specific assignment during a bimester.
