         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>It was an extremely violent economy of predation. They traded goods for slaves in the Kongo and slaves for gold in Elmina. Slaves were brought to the United States in boats that were crowded and many died before coming into the U.S.  Slaves were sold and purchased to work on large plantations in the south.  They were forced to work long hard hours.  They were treated cruelly and often whipped or severely punished.</strong></div><div><br><br></div>]]></description>

Before any meaningful reform could happen people need to recognize. </mark></strong></div><div><strong><mark>Impacted blacks. Plantation owners bought and sold slaves to increase the plantation owners’ wealth.  Slavery occurred in the south as that was where the plantations were located.</mark></strong></div><div><br></div>]]></description>
