Wales returns to a soccer World Cup. The British country, which has not participated in this tournament since 1958, when it reached the quarterfinals, will register its second entry in one of the most important championships in the sport. This place is made up of a wide variety of symbols and traditions, the flag being one of the most important. Without a doubt, one of the central pillars that revolve around the Welsh flag is the red dragon found in the central part Of the same. This has the name of 'Draig Goch', and its origin has a curious history, which includes the fight between these and the white variant that, in the past, was believed to be the incarnation of evil.

There are two dialectal varieties of Celtic. On the one hand, the British Celtic and on the other the Goidelic Celtic[1], or goidelic celt. Welsh belongs to British Celtic or Brythonic Celt, which pronounces a /p/ on final stops, hence the name P-Celtic. Since Breton and horn also belong to Brythonic Celtic, they are similar to each other. This variety was spoken most in Celtic and Roman Britain, but was reduced to Wales, Cumbria and Cornwall after the Anglo-Saxon invasion.

According to historians, the arrival of the Brittonic Celtic on the British Isles dates from the 6th century BC. Celtic was spoken at that time, until the Romans invaded Britain in AD 43. and they introduced the Latin alphabet and the written tradition. Therefore, Latin became the official language, the most widely spoken.

In the fourth and fifth centuries, Rome's empire on the islands was under attack from all sides. To the west, the Irish; from the north the Picts, and from the North Sea came Germanic or barbarian tribes, made up of Jutes, Angles and Saxons. With these changes in settlements, there were changes in the language such as Gaelic or Welsh, which absorbed terms.

The Welsh love Christmas because of the old traditions that are associated with it. Before the celebration itself it is customary to decorate the houses with mistletoe and holly, mistletoe to protect the house from evil and holly as a symbol of eternal life. The more traditional or religious Welsh usually go to a special early morning service called Plygain that takes place between 3 and 6 am. We see this more in rural areas but it is quite beautiful because Christmas carols are sung so the sounds that come out of the church at that time of night almost seem magical.
One day after the celebration of the birth of Christ is Boxing Day or Saint Stephen's Day. Welsh tradition indicated until the 19th century that it was the day of "holming", that is, young men and boys could hit the arms of girls with holly branches until they bled a little. Arms or legs, it depended on the region of Wales. Another custom indicated that the last person to go to bed should likewise be flogged the next morning.

The Mari Lwyd Ritual consists of a parade led by a person who, dressed in a white tunic, carries a hidden stick in which an equine skull is embedded on top whose jaw is made to "click" (with a hidden system of springs). when people pass by. The procession is made up of a group of people or "maris" who accompany the "horse", presided over by a "leader", a more ornate character, and some minor characters such as "Punch" (the "hitter", with a long stick ) and “Judy” (a female character who pokes with a broom) and can sometimes be accompanied by musicians, such as the “Merryman” (jester).
