There are also timeouts during play. Depending on what league or club you play for each team gets a certain number of timeouts. A coach of either team will call a timeout and each team goes to the side of the court and talk to the coach about play. After 30 seconds the players go back on the court and play starts as normal.

During a game there may be substitutes. That just means someone on the sideline goes in for someone that has been playing. The person going on the court just goes in the position the other player was in and play continues.

In this post I will talk about how game play works. To start a game each team huddles and says a chant, and then both teams are on opposite sides of the net and shake hands under the net and wish each other good luck. Next, the captains will be chosen and they will play rock, paper, scissors. Whoever wins chooses if their team want serve or receive. Depending on what they choose team A or B will serve first. Lets pretend team A is serving. The server for that rotation will serve if the serve does not go over the net the other team gets a point and they serve. Every time you get the ball back you rotate based on the way your are set up on the court. If the serve goes over the other team will try to hit the ball from 1-3 times. If the ball goes over the other team does the same. The ways to get points are if the other teams serve misses or they do not hit it over. In a game their are 2 or 3 sets. The first set goes to 25 points. The second set is the same. There is only a third set if both teams win a set. If there is a third set it only goes to 15 points. Whoever wins the third set wins the whole game. There are also time out sand substitutes during the game. At the end of a game just like before the game each team is on opposite sides of the net and shake each others hands and say good game to the other team.

              How-To

As I said in my last post, today I will be sharing some volleyball basics. First, one major thing in volleyball is how to hit the ball. There are 3 major hits, the bump, set, and spike. For the bump you hold your arms in front of you and wrap your hands around each other. Then you just pull your arms down and lift them up to hit the ball. For the set you hold your arms above your head and slightly bend your elbows. Next make a tiny basket with your hands. To hit the ball just push your elbows nearly straight. For the spike, bend your elbow and bring your hand about to your ear. To hit the ball swing your arm back then swing it forward and slap the ball. Now for some major rules. When you serve, serve from behind the serving line. If the ball hits the net, antenna, or goes out of bounds it is the other teams ball. Those are some simple volleyball basics. Thank you for reading my posts.

         Introduction

Hi, my name is Lyla. I live with my mom, my dad, my sister, my 6 year old dog Jetta, and my 5 month old puppy Winnie. Today I am going to introduce you to the sport, volleyball. If you don't know much about volleyball, that is OK. There are a lot of rules but they are easy to learn. Today I am just going to tell you the reasons I like volleyball. First of all I have been playing this sport for about 2 years. You normally start of playing for a league, which is not competitive. Once you get really good you play for a club team which travels and has competitive tournaments. (I play for a club team.) Our team name is Static Charge. One thing I really like about volleyball is playing with other people right by your side. In sports like baseball people might not be right next to you. Also something cool about volleyball is that you can communicate while playing. When you go to play the ball you can say I got it or mine. Or when you cant play the ball you can say yours or you got it. And, when you are out/on the sidelines you can cheer really loud for your teammates to encourage them. That is all I have for you today, but I will teach you about volleyball next time, bye.
