Another feature which shows the dystopian era is the amount of crimes being committed. A detail to point out is when the wife said "again?" when there was an emergency broadcast of someone who escaped prison. Meaning, crimes of those breaking the rules happens on a daily, which is a reason this society is dystopian. The film portrays that equality doesn't mean having the same attributes or traits as everyone else.  The message foreshadows a world where people have mistaken similarity to equality and shows the results of such a society which are dangerous and horrid. It could almost be mistaken as a black and white movie if it weren’t for the muted colours that can hardly be seen. This subconsciously sending a message to the audience the type of world it is. There isn’t much colour so it looks sad, lonely, cold, and isolated. The constant darkness across the screen makes the audience see the world as one flat dimension. 

Within the film, a major key theme is governmental control. This can be seen when the ballet a couple was watching was interrupted by the government news even though the ballet wasn’t feature on the news.
