         <description><![CDATA[<p>As the rates for counselor burnout and compassion fatigue rise, it is hard not to not realize that school counselors are not practicing what they teach. To counsel and guide students at 100%, we as counselors must be at 100%. We have to take care of ourselves before we can take care of others. Bringing a clear and healthy mind is the best way to help students mentally, physically, and emotionally. </p>]]></description>

         <title>Importance of Self Care</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>I had only read about or seen self care in psychology books but I did not know anyone who actually practiced it. Who has time for meditation or just basically time for themselves? </p><p>Last month I encounter a scary moment and my body told me I was doing too much. I started practicing self care routines such as, resting throughout the day, sleeping longer, scheduling, using a mind app, and drinking a lot of water. This has improve my mind, health, and emotions a tremendous amount. School counselors are often in a caring and giving mode that we can not help to our fullest capacity without recharging our battery.  </p>]]></description>

         <title>Identification and Description of Self Care Strategies</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Everyone has their own method to relax and reset. These methods might change as people pass through various changes in life. I have one daughter but she plays many sports from softball, to basketball, to volleyball, and competitive cheer. She is also a part of t he 4H group. I am working on my second Masters Degree and have a full time job. My husband owns a western store that I often help with too. We have our hands full and very little time to relax. We often get home around 8-9pm and leave by 7 am. Our tight schedule makes it difficult to get everything done but I enjoy laying down and watching documentaries with my husband. My daughter and I just started working out together and we push and motivate each other. I also love shopping, when I feel stressed, I take a trip to Marshall's and I feel better. Getting pampered at the spa or a trip to the chiropractor's office is a monthly must for me. Being around my family and enjoying time together is my comfort and reset especially on a Sunday after church.  </p>]]></description>
