Joanne Rowling was born on July 31, 1965, in Yate, England. She adopted her pen name J.K incorporating her grandmother's name Kathelin. Her father Peter Rowling was an engeneer for Roce Royce in Bristol at this time. Her mother Anne was half-French and half-Scottish. They met on a train as it left King's Cross Station in London. Her sister Diana is about two years younger than she. In 1971 Petter Rowling moved his family to the nearby village of Winterbourne. During the family's residence there, J.K and Diana were friends with neighborhood children Ian and Vikky Potter. Rowling admits to having been a bit off a daydreamer as a child and began writting stories at the age of six. One day stuck on a delayed train for four houers between Manchester and London she dreamed up a boy called Harry Potter. It took six years to write the book. In the meantime she went to teach in Portugal, married a portuguese television journalist, had her daughter Jessica, divorced her husband and returned to Britain with her daughter. She went to live in Edimburg to be near her sister. Her sudden penury made her realise that it was back amgaist the wall time and she decided to finish her Harry Potter book. She sent the manuscript to two agents and one published. One of those agents was immediately captive by the manuscript while she was hoping yo get the manuscript of "Harry Potter and Phylosopher Stone" published, Rowling worked as a French teacher in Edimburg.
