President Woodrow Wilson was a man well with words and was an activist for human rights. In the quote above Woodrow Wilson is fighting for the rights of citizens being able to voice their opinions. When it implies that the "government ought to be all outside and no inside". The message it's portraying is that these debates should be open to the public and not just made in secret. President Woodrow Wilson fought for anti-trust legislation, stronger central government, and labor rights. Woodrow Wilson was truly known as a idealistic humanitarianism and has help with a lot of America values. Personally I would like to thank Woodrow Wilson for fighting for all human rights when it came to politics.
                                - Asia B.

In 1896 the supreme court upheld the constitutionality of segregation under “separate but equal”

This case came when an african american (homer plessy) was riding a train and refused to sit in a jim crow car which he was breaking a louisiana law. Plessy argued that his constitutional rights were being violated but the state claimed that “it just merely implies a legal distinction” and that it didn't conflict with the 13th and 14th amendment. Restrictive legislation based on race continued until the case of brown v the board of education. This came from the state of louisiana adopting the law for equal but separate accommodations for white and colored races. The court sided that the laws of separate but equal did not go against the 13th amendment.the 14th Amendment that forbids the states to make laws depriving citizens of their privileges or immunities but the 14th Amendment, the Court said, was “to enforce the absolute equality of the two races before the laws, Laws, requiring their separation, do not necessarily imply the inferiority of either race.” The court believed the separation was legal long as they were equal even but the problem was they weren't equal when they were seperated.

-Riley Edwards

The term Muckraker came about during the Progressive Era to characterize reform-minded American journalists who revealed the true colors of corrupt leaders. With that being said John Spargo can be considered a Muckraker for many reasons. In 1905, Spargo published a book about child labor called, “The Bitter Cry of Children” this book uncovered the horrible things that were being done to children. After this book he wrote another book about child nutrition known as, “Underfed School Children”. Mr. Spargo is now considered one of the most important people in the socialist movement.

                             -Tysean D.

Woodrow Wilson was the 28th President of the United States, serving two terms from 1913-1919. Wilson was a leader during the Progressive Era who argued for a stronger central government and anti-trust legislation. He passed legislation on many other issues, but avoided conflicts such as treating black Americans equally and prevent lynching; causing people to believe he failed on his promises. Wilson suffered a severe strokes during his second term in office and died in 1924.
- Jordan Knight
