My name is Helen Martinez. I was born in Georgia, I traveled a lot when I was little due to my father being in the military so later on I ended up living for the rest of my life with my mother in Miami, Florida. I went to Miami Senior high school. I don't have any work experience but I am a student at Miami Dade college in my second year. My major for my AA is Childhood Education and excited to begin this journey. The reason as to why I chose this major is because I love being around kids and I want to help each kid get the education that they need and deserve. Looking at all the schools in the district, there is not a lot of teachers to be teaching so many students at once, so I want to be part of the children's life and making it fun to learn. I am patient, flexible, creative and compassionate when it comes to anything that is going on whether it would be school work or being home. My hobbies are hanging out with my friends and family, traveling with family, watching documentaries, and cooking. I love traveling with family and having the best time seeing the world as well as having the best moments with them. During this course, BSC 1005, I have learn a lot, learning about the environment, the animals and buses.

For my project proposal, I have choose to do a history of the bus public transportation. I think it is really important to know how the bus transportation got here in the first place. What was it like before when people had to struggle to get around, whether that was grocery. The events it takes in order to have the bus that we have today. The plan that the city would take to make it easier for people to get around.

The Bus Transportation Plan

In 2002, the community and local government came together to work on finding solutions to MiamiDade’s transportation problems. An aggressive public outreach campaign was launched that included public meetings, a televised town hall session, numerous radio call-in shows and a series of civic and business presentations throughout the County to solicit input from the community on transportation issues. Municipalities provided input on how to address the transportation problems at a Municipal Mayors Roundtable. Community Planning Council members attended a Transportation Roundtable and provided input on transportation issues and an estimated 2,000 people attended two transportation summits. Nearly 100,000 people logged on to the website dedicated to the discussion to present their comments and seek information on the results of the various public meetings and proposed transportation projects. Thousands of meaningful suggestions ranging from infrastructure improvements to funding options were recorded for the development of a county wide community transportation plan. After 80 neighborhood meetings and the active participation of concerned citizens at the two countywide summits, our community developed the People’s Transportation Plan (PTP) — a publicly supported transportation improvement program designed to create an integrated mass transportation network and conduct roadway improvements in MiamiDade County and its municipalities. These Miami-Dade residents also understood the need for local funding to finance the plan and recommended a half-penny sales Surtax to fund major transportation improvements.

Week 2

A lot of peacocks are being overrun in two areas which are in Pinecrest and Coconut grove, they are destroying properties and people are not happy about while some don't seem to mind. A vet is conducting a vasectomies on the male to reduce the amount of eggs produce. Peacocks are very vocally loud but there is not much the resident can do. I think that doing a vasectomy is a bit on the insane part of what is needed but I do think that they should move the peacock into a more natural environment.

Week 4

Loggerhead sea turtles are endangered species and they can live up to 65 years. Its important to protect the nesting area at the beaches to give a chance to the baby turtles make their way to sea once they hatch. It's also important for everyone to be cooperative when it comes to sea turtles, to be aware of the eggs that are lay in the beach as well as to protect them. People who disturb the eggs or pick them and move them can affect the wildlife as they follow the sun to lead them to the ocean. Once they hatch, its important to not touch the baby turtles as it can safely make it to sea and have a chance to make it up to 65 years of life. It is also important to not have plastic trash in the sea because it is hard for them to do anything.

Plastic is one of the biggest waste that is easy to make. With the amount of plastic that is being made, its hard to clean and save nature. One of the solution to make is to reduce the amount of plastic and find ways to have drinks and food in a storage like having glass container or bottles. Being able to clean the waste of plastic would take a team to do so and there is some people who work cleaning big pile of plastic, being a risk to being exposed to anything harmful.

Week 7 -Endanger Species

I choose the Emperor Bird of Paradise that is from Germany. The reason as to why I pick this country is because I think that Germany has unique animals where people would love to see and learn more of the kinds of animals that live there. Looking at the Emperor Bird of Paradise is a beautiful bird that only have a few of these type of species around. Paradisaea Guilielmi is also known as Emperor of Germany's Bird of Paradise, a yellow and brown bird with a reddish-brown iris, bluish-grey bill and purplish-brown legs. There are 43 bird of paradise species, all grouped in the same family. Of these species, 37 can be found in New Guinea. Not until 1939, the Ribbon Tailed Bird of Paradise, located in Central New Guinea was discovered. At a point in time, for their external feathers Birds of Paradise were hunted. Due to the remarkable decrease in population in 1924, hunting these birds was illegal. Today, loss of habitat is a major threat to many species, particularly those with restricted ranges

Listening to the video "Top 10 reasons NOT to move to Miami" was something that some people can relate when it comes to people, weather, and money. As this is something I can show people who want to move to Miami this video. Especially when it comes with the cost of money when trying to live in the city, everything now is so expensive and most of the people are low classes who are barely surviving. When it comes to immigrants trying to find a place where they can grow to become something better is really hard with the cost of everything. Weather comes big problem because people who are visiting here thinks that it feels nice, there are animals, people and plants that can't bare the heat. There is also climate change that happens here in Miami which is really hard to adjust it. There is a lot of constructions and road work here in Miami but they all end up being unaffordable to the people that want to move into their own place because of how taxes and cost of living nowadays.

Week 12

People at the grocery store rely so much on the way the product looks and the dates on the package. When looking at the package, people think that once the product has reach or if it has passed then it's no longer safe enough to eat which leads them to throw so many products. People tends to trust the labels than testing it on their own, like smelling the product, to ensure that they don't get sick. Farmers have to spend a lot of money just to get their crops sold and most of the crops don't get to be in the grocery store because of how they are. I really like how they came up with a solution to get the crops that aren't in to grocery don't get wasted. They use the leftover crops to a company or an organization called the Hunger Release. Food waste is a very common to get from when the consumer and from the farmers. Food waste can cause pollution which release methane up in the air. Very important to make sure that people don't waste food, instead give it to an organization that will use the food to good use like people who are hungry.
