When it was my bed time as a child, I would beg my mom to read the book "Goodnight Moon" written by Margaret Brown to me in order to fall asleep. I refused to shut my eyes and actually attempt sleeping until my favorite book was off the shelf and in my mothers hand. The safety and comfort of her reading to me assured me that I would have a peaceful sleep and wake up with her by my side yet again.

Based off of this book I was one curious kid. If my parents gave me a cookie they knew that came with asking for more. It was essential for me to look and to touch each page with a picture, so that means every single page of course. After viewing the pictures I would re-sight how I comprehended what the author wrote. As my mother said, "When we gave you a cookie we knew that meant you were going to ask for milk, and when you asked for milk the list just continued. We knew what we were getting ourselves into."

Growing up, soccer was one of the many sports I was involved in, but this one was my favorite. I loved the building anticipation that came along with the sound of the referee blowing their whistle knowing initiating game time. Soccer was a sport where I was able to interact with others and get my aggression out on the field. Having my dad stand on the sidelines and yell "BOOT IT NIKKI" as I came close to goal pushed me to not hesitate and always take the shot whenever the chance is given.

FINALLY as a freshman in high school, me and my siblings were able to convince my parents to rescue our adorable puppy, Jax. From this day until now and forever, I understand what it is like to actually be obsessed with someone. Jax is my best friend and he has taught me what it's like to smile everyday knowing I get to wake up to someone that projects the same emotions back. Every person needs a fluffy, fur baby like Jax in their life!

"Still Alice" written by Lisa Genova is one of the most recent books I have read. Growing up I was not much of a reader unless the book contained over 50% of pictures. This novel is about a woman who suffers early-onset Alzheimer's disease. Alice Howland, a 50-year-old woman, is a cognitive psychology professor at Harvard and is a world-renowned linguistics expert. This book has pushed me to further my reading because I realized what I was missing out on. I felt calm and relaxed every time I went to open the book and once I started it was hard for me to put down. Genova is an inspiring author and I will continue to recommend her work to others who are searching for an inspiring read.

I am so grateful for my loving family. I was born and raised in Naperville, Illinois, a suburb outside of Chicago. When I am not at Mizzou, I live at home with my mom, dad, older sister Leah, and my younger brother and sister who are twins, Lainey and Alec. I would not be where I am today without my family and all they do for me. Starting my first year here at Mizzou I was nervous because of how far I was going to be away from my family. My parents try to visit me as much as they can during the school year, which I am so grateful for because of how far we live.
