We analyzed the responses to a survey that involves 152 students. This is what we got:

11) 11th question shows how the relationship between the students and their families has changed during the pandemic: 63.8% of the students believes that their relationship hasn't changed and is still the same as it was before Covid-19, 25.7% thinks it has improved and now it's better, while only 10.5% says their relationship has gotten worse.

16. To the question about how much they physically exercised during the pandemic, 39.5% of the students of our schools answered that they worked out less after Covid-19. This is probably due to the fact that during the lockdown all the gyms and sport centres were closed, so they lost their motivation and preferred to lay in bed and ultimately became sedentary. Anyway 34.9% of the students that took the survey, said that their physical activity actually increased, and this is probably because, being at home all day and having nothing else to do, brought them to exercise a lot, as a way to decrease stress and anxiety. Lastly, 25.7% of the youth expressed how their sport habits did not change during the pandemic, meaning that they were able to maintain their routine nonetheless.

6)In the sixth question we can see how people felt during the covid. The poll was voted by 152 people, the people can choose between many different feelings: happy, sad/down, depressed, angry, frustrated, relieved/relaxed, lonely, tired or other. The most voted feeling was: sad/down voted by 51,3% of the people. People were sad during the pandemic, especially young people and elderly because they couldn't meet their friends or parents. They couldn’t go out for a walk or go to the gym and this causes loneliness and sadness.

1-2) From the percentage distribution of the responses given to the first two questions (“Rate your happiness level before Covid” and “Rate your happiness level after Covid”), we notice that the general happiness decreases since the answers that indicate a level above 6 correspond to 86.2% while in the second case, in the same range we got a lower overall percentage (70.3%). It means that the pandemic definitely hasn’t had a positive impact and left a curtain of melancholy. At the same time, however, the percentage of people voting “7” in the second question increased, meaning that maybe the unhappy conditions that the epidemic put us in made us appreciate a bit more our ordinary life.

In conclusion everyone was affected in an individual, different way and these two questions prove it.

3) In the third question which deals with how attention levels have changed after the covid, we can see that 50.7% had a drop in concentration, while 31.6% says that nothing has changed regarding their concentration and finally 17.8% had an increase in concentration, covid therefore had negative effects on the concentration of many students.

4) The level of motivation after Covid has decreased for 40.1% of students, while only 26.3% and 33.6% voted respectively "Increased" and "Stayed the same". Covid did effect the motivation of students in a negative way probably because the increase of the uncertainty of a tomorrow or due to the mental health issues that covid has caused to the young people.

5) In the fifth paragraph we can see that during the 2-3 years of COVID-19 crisis, most people (43.4%) became more open to learn new things with major concentration than before, however nearly 1 in 5 people experienced a loss of confidence in learning new things, the last percentage of people (34.9%) have not experienced changes in their confidence level.

7-8)In the seventh question, the poll shows the people that contracted covid and it was voted by 152 people. 52,6% didn’t have it, instead 46,7% experienced covid. Due to the eighth question we know that some people affected by covid didn’t suffer at all, whereas others had some symptoms, such as tiredness, fatigue, headaches and loss of taste. In fact, it was very common between teens to have serious symptoms.

9)The ninth question shows that 33,6% of people said that they’re average grades haven’t changed, whereas 17,1% of people affirm that their grades have decreased. Only 2% of people’s average grades have really dropped. So we can say that the covid didn’t have much impact, even if in that period a lot of students felt discouraged.

10)The tenth question, the poll voted by 152 people, refers to the relationship with parents, brothers and sisters during the pandemic. The majority of people (55,3%) voted that their relationship with their family stayed normal instead the minority of the people (11,2%) voted that their relationship turned into bad. In fact, staying together for this amount of time contributed to improve or make the relationship worse between members of the family.

12) 12th question is about the social condition of the students in relation to their friends and family, in particular we asked if they used to avoid social contexts and withdraw from their loved ones: most of them have maintained more of less stable relationship with their loved ones, while a smaller part has distanced themselves from friends and family, tending to withdraw in themselves and avoid social relationship.

13) 13th question asked the students if they have lost interest in activities they used to enjoy before the pandemic: most of them have continued to be interested in these activities and have found new ones that they enjoyed doing during the lockdown, while a small number has lost the desire to porsue their passions and hobbies and has become really lazy.

14) 14th question asks if students' eating habits have changed during the pandemic. Out of one hundred and forty-two, eighty-nine said that their eating habits have not changed, while fifty-three believe that they have changed in a lot of different ways: some have become vegetarians, others have started to eat mainly home-made food, others have started to eat junk food so their habits become worse, while others have embraced healthier lifestyles, began to workout and started eating healthy food.

15) 15th question asked the students if they have started eating healthier since the beginning of the pandemic: the difference between the answers is minimal but 52.6% of students claim to have started to eat healthier.

As it’s shown by the survey, 75% of the students said that they started caring more about the environment after the pandemic and that is because, not being able to go anywhere, they started appreciating more being in contact with nature. Also during the pandemic, when everyone was at home, the gas emissions decreased and nature started taking over again, this phenomenon probably showed how negatively humans impact the environment and inevitably, how we all have to start taking care of our planet.

18. This pie chart in the survey shows how most of the families (83.6%) fortunately didn’t lose their job during the lockdown, due to the fact that most of this students’ parents had a stable job, that they were able to keep on doing online even at home.

Some of the students that took this survey didn’t experience any particular problems during the pandemic, but those who did, decided to cope with it by listening to music, keeping in touch with their loved ones, dancing, watching movies and TV shows or even by taking more care of themselves both physically and mentally by discovering new hobbies. As a matter of fact, it is shown how well, protecting your inner peace and cultivating new passions, can help dealing with stress and anxiety, both of which were very much present in the students’ lives, especially during Covid-19.

20. The students were asked to talk about something funny that happened to them during the pandemic, and most of them responded saying that they had fun with their siblings and parents mostly while cooking something, or even during the online classes with their classmates. They also laughed with their friends on videocalls and played music out of the balcony for all of their neighbours to hear. All of those quite unusual activities, helped them to see the lockdown under a new light, making it all more bearable.

question 1 and 2

We noticed that in the first question (How happy were you before COVID? 1= not happy 10= very happy.) most voters were very happy. The majority of people vote an "8". And the average of the votes was a "7.44". And in the second question (How happy were you after COVID? 1= not happy 10= very happy) that average dropped by almost 1 whole point the new average after Corona is a "6.51". You can also clearly see that on average each person was 1 "point" less happy after Corona. From this we can draw the conclusion that Corona had a negative impact on how happy the voters are.

Question 3

In the third question (Has your concentration improved, worsened or stayed the same?) You see that in a large proportion the concentration worsened or stayed the same in 49 out of 108 (orange) the concentration worsened and in 52 out of 108 (green) the concentration stayed the same. And only in a very small part that the concentration has improved, only 7 out of 108 (blue). This is probably because of the online classes at our school, then you were less watched, and you could do other things in the meantime than concentrate. So, the online classes had no positive impact on concentration and in question 9 you can also see that it had no positive impact on grades.

In the fourth question (Has your motivation improved, worsened, or stayed the same?) You see roughly the same statistics but for more people it changed and did not stay the same. In 21 out of 108 (blue), motivation improved but in contrast, 46 out of 108 (orange), motivation worsened.

Question 5

In the fifth question (My confidence in learning new things has improved, worsened or stayed the same.) We noted that more than half their confidence in learning new things has stayed the same. As many as 62 out of 108 (green) and in 29 out of 108 (orange) their confidence worsened and in only 17 voters (blue) it improved.

Question 6

We noticed in the sixth question (During Covid I felt) that many people felt "normal" (yellow), tired (grey) and happy (blue). They are tired because they did not get as much exercise and ingested a lot of sugars. But most people felt “normal.” Probably because everyone was with their families.

In the seventh question (Have you had Covid?) It is very noticeable that almost everyone had Corona. As much as about 90%. That makes sense because Corona has also been around for 3 years, and it is a very contagious virus. And there are many different variants.

On the eighth question (How did Covid affect you? Were you very sick? Did you suffer from Covid effects for a long time, e.g., fatigue, lack of concentration, headache, shortness of breath, loss of taste?) We noticed that in many people their smell and smell was gone. In some for a long time as well. Many also had fitness problems and became tired quickly.

For question nine (My average grades have dropped since the pandemic. (1-10) we noticed that the answers were very different with many people's grades had dropped dramatically and only a few had increased. With most people, their average grades remained the same.

In this question, we noticed that the relationship with their family remained fairly the same. It can be seen that there is no one in which the relationship has deteriorated very much. In a number of people, the relationship has even improved.

For this question it is clear to see that not many people withdraw from their friends. Some people did, but about half voted that they do not withdraw from their friends at all. The score between 1-10 is 7.35. Quite a good score.

For this question, we notice that many people have not lost their interests at all. This is the case for about half of the people. On the other hand, there are also some people who have lost their interests quite a bit in doing activities. But in the end, it is a positive score of 7.33

With this question, we read that quite a few people started eating unhealthier. It was also seen in a large number that they just kept eating the same and that the corona did not make much difference.

For this question, we noticed that the majority voted ''no'' and thus do not eat healthier since the corona pandemic. A whopping 77% do not eat healthier since corona. And the remaining 33% voted that they eat healthier since the pandemic.

For this question, it is notable that most people are as physically engaged as they were before corona. For 52 people this was the case. Also for 35 people their physical state has decreased. And only the remaining 21 people voted that it has improved since corona.

With question 17, it is very clear that it made a real difference in very few people. 88 people say that the corona has not had much impact on their view of the environment. On the other hand, there are also 22 people for whom it did have an impact and thus started to think better about the environment.

For this question, it was noticeable that as many as 90% of people were not economically worsened by the pandemic. The corona made little difference in economic terms for those 90%. For the other 10%, it did. For those 10%, they worsened in economic terms.

Covid-19 affected everyone in a different way

as a result from our survey (which involved a group of italian and a group of a dutch people) we can see that generally Italians reacted in a worse way than the dutch. (considering the contagion numbers)

about the didactic aspects, Italians reckon a loss of concentration and loss of interest in learning new things while in holland people felt about the same as before with no noteworthy changes in the subject; in the everyday-life Italians seemed to engage healthier lifestyles (talking about eating-habits and physical exercise) while dutch basically maintained the same manners if not worsened.

Even the happiness levels got a more drastic downfall in italy than in holland considering the results of the survey where we were asked to rate out level of happiness before and after the pandemic.

obviously the habits of everyone changed and each one of us handled it in a different way individually, but we can see differences even in the way the countries reacted to it; italy was one of the first countries in europe to experience covid and even tho the general lines were the same (with the lockdowns, the vaccines, the warnings, precautions etc…) it operated in a bit different way.

The certification had different uses, in holland people didn’t need the “green pass” as much as in Italy and there was some little differences in the curfew; besides in italy different categories of people put themselves into helping the victims of the pandemic, the medical services were wider and even the Italian military take a part in the process in Italy by helping the medics, police and enforce lockdown laws.

Netherlands’ conclusion of the debate

Every time you get covid-19 your immune system grows which concludes in having a smaller reaction to the virus.

Because our lockdown was less strict, certain people could continue their work, which meant the economy could continue.

The effects on students in the area of education weren't enormous. A couple of weeks in, schools recovered themselves and nearly all students in the Netherlands were attending online classes.

To solve the problem as soon as possible, our government in the Netherlands focused all their attention on vaccinations.

The Dutch conclusion
I'd rather live in the Netherlands because we had less strict rules about going outside. For example in Italy they'd to receive a green pass just to leave your house. You can't force people to isolate themselves for an undecided period of time.

Italy’s conclusion of the debate

We debated on whether restrictions should’ve been less strict and the governments should have given more freedom to their citizens. Based on the results of both the survey that the italian and the dutch students voted, and datas about infections and death rate after the lockdown we think that our government’s priority was the citizens’ safety. In order to guarantee the right to public health, both the italian government and population sacrificed their normal routines isolating in their houses. The italian government was the first in U.E. to deal with Covid-19, so it was hard to control such an unexpected pandemic. Our government adopted the necessary rules to limit the infections and the death rate, following what the art.32 of our constitution says: “The Republic assumes responsibility for health as a fundamental right of the individual and in the interest of community.”

As a nation we fought together against the virus, conscious of the consequences, united by our civic sense, respecting the rules, motivated by the desire of protecting our loved ones and the community; as the art. 16 of our constitution says: “every citizen can travel free except when there are rules about the safety of everybody in the country. Looking back at 2020-2021, us students are satisfied and proud of how our country dealt with the pandemic, even though it was hard, we felt like our safety was prioritized. In the end we had more time to spend with our families and to mature as people. This experience has taught us to appreciate life a bit more, even the little things that we used to take for granted. If there were to be a future pandemic, we will be more prepared to deal with it in a more secure and efficient way.
