         <title>Roxana (Roxy):</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Age: At the beginning of the novel we learn that Roxy is 20 years old. As the novel progresses, Roxy has gotten much older. At our current place in the novel we can infer that Roxy is about 35 years old. <br>Social Class: Roxy is apart of the lower class. She was born a slave and maintained that title until she was freed by her now dead master, Percy Driscoll. Even though Roxy is free she is still a black woman and is only considered slightly higher than a slave. <br>Race: Roxy is considered to be a black slave even though her skin is pale. Only 1/16 of her black but that 1/16 comes from her mother's side, which makes her a slave. <br>Hobbies/Career: Roxy was a slave for most of her life, so she spent most of her time following the masters orders and taking care of both her son, Chambers, and the master's son ,Tom. After she is set free by her master, Percy Driscoll, she leaves Dawson's Landing. Roxy began working as a Chambermaid on a steamboat that traveled along the Mississippi River. <br>Personality Traits: Roxy is a very clever woman. She knows how to work situations to make them go the way she wants them too. Roxy   has temper and when she's angry, her emotions can affect her judgement. She is very good at keeping secrets, especially important ones. <br>Key Choices/Events: The first major choice Roxy makes in the novel is when she decides to swap the two boys. Roxy switches  Tom and Chambers because she wants her son to have a better life than the one he was planned to have.  The second major choice she makes is when Roxy blackmails Tom by threatening to tell uncle about his new gambling debt. She does this in hope of earning money from him. The third choice she makes is when she decides to tell Tom that he is not actually Tom but in fact her son, Chambers. This reveals the secret she has been keeping for years. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Tom:</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Age: At our current spot in the novel, Tom is somewhere between the age of 20-25.<br>Social Class: Tom is apart of the higher social classes because his father was a very wealthy man with his fortune constantly growing. <br>Race: Tom's is a white male. <br>Hobbies/Career: In Tom's younger years he loved to start fight with the other boys in town and get Chambers to fight the boys for him. He also loved to get "cramps" when he was swimming and would call for help, only to laugh at the person who fell for his trick. After he gets back from Yale, we discover that he has not only brought back a drinking problem, but a secret gambling addiction as well. Even though Tom has gone to Yale for two years, he does not pursue a career but instead continues to live off his uncle's money. <br>Personality Traits: Tom is a very selfish and spoiled man. He loves his authority of his "inferiors" and treats them horribly. He is jealous of those who may be able to do something better than himself. Tom is very lazy and unmotivated. He lives off of his uncle's money and has not intentions of finding his own career. <br>Key Choices/Events: Tom dresses up as woman so that he can steal valuable from the people in town with out being recognized by anyone. He steals these valuables so that he can have the money to pay back his gambling debt without his the Judge knowing. <br>Tom makes a deal with Roxy. The deal states that Tom will give Roxy 25 dollars a month and in return she will tell no one about his gambling debt or the fact that he is actually Valet de Chambre. After Roxy tells Tom that he is actually Chambers, Tom begins to think that everyone else knows that he is African-American and even feels ashamed to sit at the table with the white people. <br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Age: At out current spot in the novel, Chambers is around the age of 20-25. <br>Social Class: Chambers is apart of the lower class because he is a slave. <br>Race: Chambers is an African-American slave. <br>Hobbies/Career: Chambers spends most of his younger life listening to the commands of Tom Driscoll. For the rest of his life, Chambers will work as a slave.  <br>Personality Traits: Chambers is an very patient and cooperative man that can deal with the constant torment that Tom puts him through. Chambers is smart because he figures out his role as a slave and does what he is told because he knows that he won't be punished if they do what they ask.<br>Key Choices/Events: "Chambers" is switched at birth with "Tom". Chambers confides in Roxy by telling her about Tom's gambling problem and Tom's debts that his uncle had to pay off. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Age: At our current place in the novel, Wilson is between the ages of 35-45.<br>Social Class: Wilson is apart of the higher social classes. <br>Race: Wilson is a white male with Scotch parentage.<br>Hobbies/Career: Wilson has many strange hobbies including Palmistry and studying people's fingerprints. After getting out of college, Wilson comes to the town and opens an office. The office sign said "David Wilson, Attorney and Counselor-At-Law, Surveying, Conveyancing, ETC." Wilson was apart of the Free-thinker's Society along with Judge Driscoll.<br>Personality Traits: Most of the town thinks that Wilson is a Labrick (Idiot) because of one remark he made when he first arrived in Dawson's Landing. He is a very smart man but is judged for his sense of humor that most people in the town don't understand. He has a quirky and strange personality (and humor) that, at least the Judge seems to like. <br>Key Choices/Events: When Wilson first arrives at the town he makes a humorous remark about a dog that the other members of  the town take too literally. This remark earns him the nickname Puddn'head. Wilson begins to take an interest in taking people's fingerprints. He collects both Tom and Chambers fingerprints when they were young. David Wilson befriends the Judge. Wilson is suspicious of Roxy's behavior towards him when she comes to say goodbye. Wilson see's a woman in Tom's bedroom and is suspicious of the unknown woman. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Judge Driscoll:</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Age: At our current place in the novel, the Judge is between the ages of 50-60. <br>Social Class: The Judge is apart of the higher social classes and is a prominent figure in the community of Dawson's Landing. <br>Race: The Judge is a white male. <br>Hobbies/Career: York's career was as the judge of the county court in Dawson's Landing. The Judge retired from the bench and all business activities in 1850. He became the president of the Free-thinker's Society and Puddn'head Wilson was the other member. <br>Personality Traits: The Judge is described as a "fine and just and generous man...To be a gentleman ...was his only religion."(pg 2) The Judge got all wonderfully with the whole town. He is very kind to his friend, David Wilson, even though the rest of the town thinks he is a fool. The Judge is also very kind towards Tom, even though he had to pay off an enormous debt for him.<br>Key Choices/Events: The Judge tries to convince the rest of the town that Wilson is one of the smartest men he knows but the residents refuse to change there opinion. The Judge adopts Tom when Percy Driscoll dies. York pays back Tom's gambling debts and even puts him back into his will after his anger towards Tom had faded. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Age: Rowena is 19. <br>Social Class: Rowena is apart of the middle social classes.<br>Race: Rowena is a white female.<br>Hobbies/Career: Rowena doesn't have a specific career but I can infer that she spends most of her time helping her mother around the house.  She also seems to help her mother with taking care of the lodger, if they have one. <br>Personality Traits: Rowena is described as "romantic, amiable, and very pretty..."(pg 24) She is excited and proud of all the attention that her family was getting because of the arrival of the twins. She is all about romance and is head over heels for the Italian twins.<br>Key Choices/Events: Rowena is excited when she finds out that her home will be housing two Italian twins. She loves the attention she gets from the whole town because she is a member of the home that the twins are staying </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Age: We can infer that Patsy Cooper is between the ages of 40-50. <br>Social Class: Patsy is apart of the middle social classes.<br>Race Patsy is a white female. <br>Hobbies/Career: Patsy career is never revealed but it is clear that does have a job that helps her support her family. She also takes lodgers in her extra room for extra money. <br>Personality Traits: Patsy is well liked by the town and called "Aunt Patsy". Patsy loves the attention that she gets from the town when the twins arrive to stay at her home. This tells us that she is the type of person that loves to be in the spotlight and have the attention on her.<br>Key Choices/Events: When Patsy gets a letter from two Italian twins, who are asking her if she would allow both of them stay in her extra room, she is very excited. When the twins arrive she opens her home, letting the residents of the town meet the new foreigners. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Age: The twins are both 24.<br>Social Class: The twins are apart of the higher social class.<br>Race: The twins are both Italian males. <br>Hobbies/Career: The twins are both musicians. They both play the piano for the residents of Dawson's Landing. They spend years touring Europe before they came to the small town of Dawson's Landing.<br>Personality Traits: Both of the twins have a charm and manner that impresses the town of Dawson's Landing. They are very respectful and sweet to all they residents. They take the town's extreme interest with grace and answer every question they have. <br>Key Choices/Events: Luigi and Angelo Capello send a letter to Patsy Cooper asking if they could stay in there extra bedroom. The twins arrive at Aunt Patsy's house and immediately are bombarded by questions from all of the town's residents. They answer all of there questions and play the piano for the residents for hours. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Age: We can infer that Rachel Pratt is around the age of 40-50. <br>Social Class: Mrs.Pratt is apart if the higher social classes.<br>Hobbies/Career: Mrs.Pratt lives with her brother, York Driscoll and we can infer that she helps him watch over the family home. We can also infer that Rachel has spent a majority of her time caring for Tom when they first adopted him.<br>Personality Traits: We don't know much about Mrs. Rachel Pratt but we can assume that she must be a very patient woman if she can handle Tom's attitude. We can also infer that she was very sorrowful after her husband's death but she made it through the sorrow and is now a stronger woman because of that.<br>Key Choices/Events: Mrs.Pratt moves in with her brother after her husband's death. Rachel and York adopt Tom after his father dies.  </div>]]></description>

He was around 50 when he died. <br>Social Class: Percy is apart of the higher social classes. <br>Race: Percy is a white male.<br>Hobbies/Career: Percy was a business man who kept growing his fortune. Percy was always out of town on business even after his son was born. His money meant a lot to him. <br>Personality Traits: Percy Driscoll was a money hungry man. He was said to be humane towards his slave but when his money goes missing he punishes his slaves. He is rarely there when his son is little showing that he shows only a small bit of affection towards his son. This shows that Percy was not exactly the most affectionate parent.<br>Key Choices/Events: Percy threatens to sell his slaves down the river if they don't tell him who stole his money. Percy Driscoll dies leaving his son to be adopted by his brother, York.</div>]]></description>
