People in this region spend 40 billion hours a year trying to find and collect water, and the water that they manage to find is often unsafe. The water scarcity issue has drawn the attention of many people who have tried to integrate complex technologies in remote villages that don't have access to local repairmen. However, cost and maintenance render many of their ideas impractical. The Warka Water is an inexpensive, easily-assembled structure that extracts water from the air. It is made from biodegradable materials, is easy to clean, and can be erected without mechanical tools in less than a week. Once the locals know how to build the Warka, they will be able to teach other villages and communities. Many children from rural villages spend several hours a day to fetch water, when they could be using that time to invest in more productive activities and education.
