I press submit RIGHT when class starts (so hopefully kids get the powerschool notification if they are late). I ask students to go camera up in the beginning of class and at the end of class (they can turn it off in between). One with Zoom and the presentations ready for the class and the other one with PS to take attendance. I don't submit attendance immediately because they see that they're present and could leave the session. It's hard to track when they leave especially when presenting content or in the middle of the process material.

I explain to them that this new norm will teach them accountability in the real world especially with virtual meetings at a job or school. I start these video field trips (by sharing my screen) 10 minutes early and let them run 5 to 10 minutes into the class noting students who are entering the class as I allow them in.  The trick is to keep the cadets guessing about what the will see/experience when they come into the classroom
