Google Drawings: Bio team has made some drag and drop activities, to label a diagram, build a venn diagram, vocab sort, via google drawings. Helps with vocab. It is something they have to DO, harder to cheat and cannot simply copy answers from google searches.

I joke with them when their camera is off. They turn it on laughing and usually leave it on. They turn them off for a few seconds but most of them turn them back on later.

On Wednesdays we wear...

I stole this from the movie Mean Girls. I let my students vote on "what we wear" the following Wednesday. I give them a choice of colors and such. For example, this week's vote is between: stripes, polka dots, and plaid. This past Wednesday we wore our "favorite t-shirts". It is something fun for them to participate in and helps to make them feel part of a group and connected to each other.

I take attendance as kids roll in! I press submit RIGHT when class starts (so hopefully kids get the powerschool notification if they are late). I ask students to go camera up in the beginning of class and at the end of class (they can turn it off in between). Students must also go cameras up if they are working asynchronously during our synchronous session (if you get what I'm saying).

I explain to them that this new norm will teach them accountability in the real world especially with virtual meetings at a job or school. I have 70% of my students turning on their cameras but the ones who don't turn on their cameras still participate in the chat or I ask them to read something that we are doing.

We've been on three virtual field trips; an airshow in Colorado, a fly over in Italy, and "G-Force" training for pilots while we've waited for students to check into the class. I start these video field trips (by sharing my screen) 10 minutes early and let them run 5 to 10 minutes into the class noting students who are entering the class as I allow them in. The trick is to keep the cadets guessing about what the will see/experience when they come into the classroom
