The Ruins if Pejitei

The ruins of Pejitei explored from pages 69-71 allow us a glimpse into the lore of the God Monsters and their power over not only destruction, but over human ambition. Panel 1 shows how the drive to activate the monster turns the "peaceful city of artisans" to rubble (69). The deep mines- home of the sleeping "God Warrior"- spur Kurotowa's ambition on, and seem to suggest a betrayal beginning to take root: "If I could control it even the throne would be no daydream"(71).

The Sea of Corruption (Toxic Jungle)

The Sea of Corruption is a "forest of death" filled with corrupted insects, fungi, and plants, threatening the remaining civilization with its approach (Panel 5, 7). The forest brings fear to the people, leading them to act irrationally, and with a lack of empathy to the life-forms that call it home. Nausicaä however is unphased, and is empathetic to even the feared Ohmu, saying on Panel 7, "Forgive me for using those strobe grenades!(16)

The Pure Center of The Sea of Corruption

Later in the graphic novel, Nausicaä finds that the center of The Sea of Corruption is pure, lacking the deadly miasma of the jungle above (122). This area of the jungle is portrayed with a certain clarity, the floating spores nowhere to be seen. As she explores, Nausicaä finds the same "sand that Master Yupa showed [her]... so long ago," remembering her discovery that the jungle is purifying itself (Panel 10, 127). The centre acts as a beacon of hope for Nausicaä and her people.
