This led him to ditch most of his belongings and burn all of his cash, this was freeing for him. Also, while he was still near the recreation area, he slept in a tent. While he slept, he was surrounded by chollas, bur sage, and lizards. According to the narrator, Alex was basking in his newly found freedom.
