7-1 The Color of My Words Character Mapping Padlet by Jaclyn Netis

Use the columns in the Padlet to share new information we learn about each character. As you write down information you learn about each of the characters, think about why an author would include this kind of information and how it impacts you as a reader. In other words, as yourself, "How would my understanding of the book change if the author didn't include this information about the character?"

A word to describe Guario is compassionate because he understood that she wanted to do something so badly, which was to write. He understood well because he wanted to have a future that was better than the one he currently has. The author included this information because nobody would've understood how he had felt, unless they had the same experience as Guario. The author had also had have not put this information it wouldn't be as emotional. I can say this because in the text it states, "After a while, he said, "I know how it feels." "How what feels like?" I asked. "To want something so bad." "What have you wanted so badly?" I asked, looking up at him. "A future," he answered. And then I saw the tears in his eyes for real." He had felt compassionate at first, and then sad. If Ana Rosa had never admitted this scene would be different because Ana Rosa needed to admit to make Guario feel that way.

In the text it states "I know what it feels like. How what feels like? I asked. To want something so bad. What have you wanted so bad? I asked, looking up at him. A future he answered". The author includes this information to let us know what type of brother Guario is and to be able to understand him, that he too has wanted something like Ana Rosa.
