Our nursery provision runs from Finlay, Hilltop children and family centres and Pebbles nursery co located with the light house children and family centre.

Funded through early years education funding and topped up by parents who request additional hours parents contact the nursery directly to request a place.

Barnardo’s are commissioned by Plymouth City Council to provide advocacy to children and young people going through the child protection process, those who are in care and those who have a disability.  This can also include Non Instructed Advocacy.  The service also supports children who wish to complain about the local authority.  One worker delivers issue-based advocacy for those aged 16+.   

Advocacy is provided during Initial Child Protection Conferences (ICPCs) and at Child Protection Review (CPR) meetings, Statutory Child in Care meetings and disability oriented meetings. 

The team consists of one Service Coordinator and four part-time Project Workers who all deliver 1-1 work both virtually and face to face.

We support each year over 10,000 children under the age of five across over 7,500 families in Plymouth

We deliver children’s centres across 2/3 of the city. This includes 12 children’s centre buildings. 

Services include both universal and targeted which are delivered in one-to-one and group work sessions.  

Our programmes and interventions include:

·       A range of bespoke parenting programmes. 

·       Domestic Abuse support. 

·       Child Development courses.

·       Supporting statutory interventions, such as Pre-birth risk assessments and FMSA. 

·       Support for children with additional needs.

·       Baby massage. 

We have 80+ staff,. We have four teams of Assistant Project workers and Project Workers who work collaboratively across the city to best meet the needs of children and families. The team are supported by a business support team who help us to provide front of house and admin support across all of our Children’s Centres.

We have a partnership with Plymouth City Council to be the lead organisation in the development and running of the Rees Wellbeing Hub.  This is overseen by managers from the Children’s Centres.  The hub is developing services for all ages of the local community including the elderly.  The focus is in promoting wellbeing through a social prescribing model.  We have admin support and one development worker.

Complications from Excess Weight (CEW) clinics use a holistic approach to treating conditions related to obesity in children and young people (CYP). Twenty one clinics are now open and care is being delivered by a multidisciplinary team (MDT), linked to a specialist children’s hospital.

The three aims of the service are to:

·       Identify the factors involved in the development of severe obesity. Assessment should be holistic with equal consideration for mental health, physical health and social needs.

·       Treat complications associated with severe obesity and coordinate / refer onto other services where required.

·       Consider an individualised holistic plan. This may include interventions such as family-based therapy, behavioural coaching, dietary strategies, and mental health support. This aims to address health inequalities by considering culturally appropriate factors and a personalised approach.

Children will receive holistic treatment and person-centred care packages developed with their family, which could include mental health treatment, coaching and advice around a healthy diet.

The rollout of the pilot delivers on the NHS Long Term Plan ambition to treat children for severe complications related to their obesity, avoiding the need for more invasive treatment. One thousand children a year, who are aged between two and 18 and experiencing health complications related to severe obesity, will be supported through the new services.

The team consists of Service Coordinator, who manages two part-time project workers who all undertake 1-1 work both virtually and face to face, and a Volunteer Coordinator.

The service provides two levels of support – information, advice & guidance, and targeted support over eight – 12 sessions. The service also provides a range of activities and groups across to young carers and sibling carers.

Barnardo’s are commissioned by the Government of Jersey to provide advocacy to children and young people going through the child protection process. 

Advocacy is provided during Initial Child Protection Conferences (ICPCs) and at Child Protection Review (CPR) meetings. Children and young people are also able to request advocacy support outside of meetings. 

We currently only have a Service Coordinator who oversees referrals, manages the two Project Workers, undertakes some of the advocacy work with children and young people, and liaises directly with the various Social Work teams in Jersey.

This is a voluntary funded service to deliver Decider Skills to children that are identified by the pastoral team in the schools who they feel would benefit most from this intervention.

Supports children and young people of all genders who are at risk of harms from Sexual Exploitation (CSE), Criminal Exploitation (CCE), Serious Youth Violence and those who go missing,. We work with young people across Bristol and, for those being sexually exploited, in South Gloucestershire. We offer a relationship based, trauma informed, one to one intervention to children, young people and young adults.

The work is funded by the local authorities, Police and Crime Commissioner and Voluntary Funds. Staffing consists of 11 Project workers managed by two Team Managers. 

Referrals come directly to the service via oldmarketservices@barnardos.org.uk

Alongside BACE, Old Market provides smaller services to Girls and Young Women harmed by criminal exploitation, to young people who experience poor mental health because of the impact of violence on their lives and to Black young men being harmed through criminal exploitation in a partnership with Changing Futures.

The service will provide therapy to 150 families in Bristol between September 2025 and September 2027.

Multidimensional family therapy is provided for families with a young person aged 13-17 where there are concerns about substance misuse, offending behaviour or school exclusion.
