His unwinding is the first time that the reader finds out what the unwinding process is like for the children instead of just hearing about it. His unwinding is one of the clearest example of murder in the whole novel because the unwinding starts off with Roland being unable to leave, forcing him to be unwound against his will. Secondly, the doctors shift in teams as they take apart his body piece by piece. Although Roland clearly wants the doctors to stop, he is slowly losing his identity as he loses each part of his body.
