(The Editors of Encyclopaedia Britannica (2025, January 13). </p><p><br/></p><p>"During the sixteen years he served as president of the University of Chicago, Hutchins abolished fraternities, football, and compulsory attendance, and introduced the Great Books program." (Sadker, D., 2021) He recommended that "students learn directly from the Great Books-works by history’s finest thinkers and writers, books as meaningful today as when they were first written." Adler (1902-2001) was an American philosopher who stirred up schools, colleges, and universities concerning the placement of classic works in curriculum. </p><p><br></p><p>He increased and rejuvenated interest in perennialism with the publication of The Paideia Proposal: An Educational Manifesto (1982). The Paideia Proposal - done late in his career - provided and offered public educators "a unique concept of teaching great works to children." ("Mortimer Jerome Adler." Encyclopedia of World Biography). Adler advocated that "all students be educated in the classics and that education be a lifelong venture." (Sadker, D., 2021)</p>]]></description>
