Oakley Bridge

My proposal would culminate with a bridge project in Annie's birthplace (and resting place) of Darke County, Ohio. The dedication of the bridge would include work with a local foster program and the interior of the covered bridge would include murals produced from the art of children in the area schools. This is to honor Annie's resiliency as a child when she, herself, was moved from home to home, a series of turning points that no doubt contributed to her hallmark determination and resiliency.

Bird Sanctuary

I'd create a bird sanctuary to balance the animals hunted for sport by those during Oakley's time. We'd honor the turning point in her life of learning to shoot and paying off her family's mortgage. There could be lessons in the visitor's center about responsible gun ownership in the modern day, as well. There also could be environmental programming on modern care for the natural world. This could be located anywhere in the US. Perhaps multiple locations.
