There are three major causes of peptic ulcers: infection, certain types of medications, and other medical problems that cause the release of too much stomach juices.
Helicobacter pylori is a bacteria that lives in mucous in the digestive system. It causes 95% of all duodenal ulcers and 70%of all gastric ulcers.

Stomach pain: Usually sharp or burning. Pain usually gets worse when stomach is empty. Eating usually relieves pain for an hour or so.
If the ulcer is severe enough it may punch through the lining of your stomach. This may cause leakage into your body caviety causing infection
Patient may have internal bleeding
Blood in Stool
Vommiting

About 20 million people in the United States develop at least one ulcer in their lifetime
Smoking increases the chance of devolping an ulcer and decreases the chances of response to treatments.
Very few ulcers fail to respond to treatments.
No one knows why, but people with type A blood are more likely to develop cancerous stomach ulcers

Most patients are told to take medications that reduce stomach acid and are told to intake less irritating foods.
Antibiotic Medication is perscribed if patient has helicobacter pylori. This is found with a scope. A test tube takes a pinch of the stomach lining to test for this bacteria
Doctors suggest quitting smoking, intake of alcohol, tea, coffee, soda, and other food/drinks containing caffeine.
Another way to prevent an ulcer is maintaining a healthy lifestyle. EX: Hygiene, vaccinations
