The general themes of William Shakespeare's play, Romeo and Juliet, are love and conflict. Both of these themes work together to form an amazing story that is still very popular over 400 years later. The theme of love is shown very strongly throughout the whole story, starting when Romeo saw Juliet for the first time and immediately fell in love with her. Romeo does everything he can to find and be with Juliet, despite the huge rivalry between both of their families. In the end, Juliet fakes her death by going into a drug-induced coma so she could have a funeral and appear to be dead, be buried, wake up from her coma and escape the casket, and run away so she could live the rest of her life with Romeo, but Romeo is not aware of this plan. When Romeo hears of Juliet's "death," he rushes to her and tries to save her. When Romeo could not save Juliet, he finds a bottle of poison and drinks it so he can die with her. When Juliet wakes up from her coma and sees Romeo's dead body, she tries to wake him up but he won't. She then drinks the rest of the poison but that was not enough to kill her, so she grabbed Romeo's dagger and stabbed herself in the heart. Conflict is also shown very well throughout the story with the two big rival families: The Montagues and the Capulets. These families both live in Verona, Italy and they have grown to hate each other. Conflict is also shown through Juliet when she fights with herself after she finds out Romeo is a Montague.

How the history of theater supports this play Romeo and Juliet is that as Shakespeare created the play Romeo and Juliet, he wanted to show how the language within the whole play so the audience could really focus on what is going on. There was very little music and costumes but it was just used to add more effects to the play. The first ever play of Romeo and Juliet in 1597 was a popular success in its day. All the components of this play would fit under the renaissance because for example when Romeo and Juliet got married it shows that their marriage was classified as the upper class during that time in the renaissance. Also during that time marriages would be arranged between families not the individuals that are in love. Which perfectly goes with Romeo and Juliet since their families wanted both of them to marry someone else not each other. Romeo and Juliet was definitely inspiring since first it was based on a true story and Romeo and Juliet was one of the most famous love stories ever told. Love really is a strong theme to be told and that is really intense theme to be told.
