This is a very important a skill that students should be able to do, because these skills help the students spell and also improve reading comprehension. The students should develop skills of phonemic awareness by blending, phonemic segmentation(first isolation, last isolation and completion).

Why? Because an alphabetic orthography maps speech to print at the level of the phoneme. In other words, users of an alphabetic written system record the smallest units of sound of their spoken language in print."

When teaching a writing workshop there are some steps that teachers should follow. First, there is a mini lesson where the teacher introduces a new skill/topic. This is very crucial for students to be able to discuss what they created, because it helps with confidence in writing

It is a new era where technology surrounds us and now teachers have to incorporate technology within their lessons. While it can be difficult for teachers to learn it can greatly benefit students to learn from this new alternative way. This can open a new interactive pathway for students to appreciate reading and writing in a fun way instead of the simple pen and paper.

According to M. Pressley, "Strategies instruction in reading groups is transactional in the psychological sense in that the activities of the group are determined jointly by teachers and students as they interact with text. Even through the teacher begins the lesson with particular ideas about what will be discussed and how discussion will proceed, the students strongly influence what actually happens. Thus, if the students are "not getting it," the teacher changes tactics. Alternatively, a student's response may cue an extensive and relevant discussion that the teacher did not plan. Throughout the transaction, student responses affect the behaviors and responses of other students and the teacher".

According to Marie Clay, "In a complex model of interacting competencies in reading and writing the reader can potentially draw from all his or her current understanding, and all his or her language competencies, and visual information, and phonological information, and knowledge of printing conventions, in ways which extend both the searching and linking processes as well as the item knowledge repertoires. Learners pull together necessary information from print in simple ways at first . . . but as opportunities to read and write accumulate over time the learner becomes able to quickly and momentarily construct a somewhat complex operating system which might solve the problem. There is no simplified way to engage in the complex activities . . ."

According to E. H. Hiebert, "fluency is an essential component of successful reading – the failure of students to become fluent readers can have repercussions throughout their lives. The need for instruction that helps students to achieve fluency is clear and unequivocal. However, in spite of its importance, fluency is only one aspect of reading, and students also need instruction in phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, and comprehension to become successful readers."

According to E. H. Hiebert, "Words represent complex and, often, multiple meanings. Further, these complex,

multiple meanings of words need to be understood in the context of other words in the sentences and paragraphs of texts. Not only are students expected to understand words in texts but also texts can be expected to introduce them to many new texts. The vocabulary of written language is much more extensive and diverse than the vocabulary of oral language."

"Calkins is one of the original architects of the “workshop” approach to teaching writing to children, which holds that writing is a process, with distinct phases, and that all children, not just those with innate talent, can learn to write well. Calkins popularized and developed many of the positions taken by Graves regarding writing and later applied them to reading. The publication of The Art of Teaching Reading (2001) catapulted Calkins to expert status in reading as well. The book offers ideas about setting up libraries in classrooms and the value of offering students a wide selection of books, adults reading aloud, and many other things that go into Calkins’s idea of helping children live a “richly literate life.”"
