Built at the beginning of the 16th century in honor of the Roman martyr who protected the population from epidemics and calamities (being the patron saint of the municipality). He is the patron saint of Los Palacios and Villafranca together with the Virgen de las Nieves, and the temple was a chapel that was once the Church of Villafranca de las Marismas; It has a simple building, in which the baroque carving of San Miguel Arcángel stands out (whose authorship is attributed to Pedro Roldán).

In this old chapel, the oldest brotherhood of Los Palacios and Villafranca was founded in 1566: La Hermandad de la Santa y Vera Cruz.
