We are introduced to the three witches during their first meeting before meeting with Macbeth. 

King Duncan learns about Macbeth’s military achievements and gives the order to name Macbeth the “Thane of Cawdor”. 

Macbeth and Banquo meet the 3 witches and are told of their fate. 
Macbeth is given the name of “Thane of Cawdor”. 

King Duncan announces that his successor as king will be the eldest son, Malcolm. Macbeth view Malcolm as an obstacle in his path to the throne. 

Lady Macbeth learns of the witches prophesies but she worries that Macbeth may lack the necessary ruthlessness to commit murder to become king.

King Duncan arrives at Macbeth's castle.

Macbeth is confused with his own morals and spirit about his plan to murder the king. Lady Macbeth convinces him to go through with the plan.

Banquo has been dreaming about the three witches and their prophecies, but Macbeth lies and claims he has forgotten about them. Macbeth prepares himself to kill King Duncan with his soliloquy.

Macbeth comes back from killing King Duncan with the daggers in his hands. He cannot return the daggers to the crime scene and Lady Macbeth has to do it for him.

A drunken porter admits Macduff and Lennox into the castle and Macbeth greets them acting like he just woke up. Macduff goes to wake Duncan, as part of his official duty and finds Dundan dead. Malcolm decides to flee to England and Donailbain to Ireland.

Ross and the Old man discuss the strange occurrences that happened with Duncan's death. Ross decides not to attend Macbeth's coronation.

Banquo expresses his suspicions of Macbeth and his hopes of advancement. By asking innocent questions, Macbeth finds out Banquo’s plans and has decided that Banquo must be murdered to be safe as king. 

Lady Macbeth is worrisome and disillusioned; she feels that they have a achieved the throne at the expense of her happiness and peace of mind. Macbeth acknowledges that he is also tortured, he envies Duncan for being in peace and his dreams are full of nightmares. Macbeth reveals that he has a plan to restore his peace of mind but won’t discuss with Lacy Macbeth. 

The 3 Murderers carry out their duty and kill Banquo but Fleance is left free.  

At the  banquet, Macbeth learns about Banquo’s death and Fleance’s escape. Macbeth sees Banquo’s ghost sitting in his place. He loses control and betrays himself infront of his guests who do not see his hallucination. 

Hecate is angry that she was not informed about Macbeth. She orders for a meeting with him and the witches the next day and foretells his downfall. 

Lennox and a lord discuss Macbeth’s guilt. We learn that Macduff has gone to the royal court of England to join Malcolm. 

Macbeth visits the three witches as they cook up a spell in a cauldron. They use ingredients that are arranged to match Macbeth's developing wickedness.  

Macbeth is desperate for answers and does not care for the repercussions. The witches give him three apparitions, the first being an armed head foretells Macbeth's eventual decapitation, which Macbeth takes as a representation of Macduff's head. "Beware Macduff; Beware the Thane of Fife"

The second apparition being a bloody child represents Macduff as he was born prematurely and was from a Caesarean section. "Be bloody, bold and resolute; laught to scorn the power of man, for none of woman born shall harm Macbeth". 

The third apparition being a crowned child carrying a branch represents Malcolm coming back to Dunsinane hill. Macbeth sees this as no threat as the forest cannot move. "Be lion-mettled, proud, and take no care who chafes, who frets, or where conspirers are: Macbeth shall never vanquished be, until Great Birnam wood to high Dunsinane hill shall come against him."

The fourth apparition being a show of eight kings representing the eventual succession of Banquo's descendants to the throne of Scotland, shatters Macbeth's hopes, provoking him to an outburst of helpless rage.  

Ross tells Lady Macbeth and her son that Macduff has fled to England. She is angry and confused at Macduff's apparent desertion of his family. A messenger comes to warn her of immediate danger, but it is too late. Macbeth's murderers arrive, kill her son, and go in pursuit of Lady Macduff herself.

Macduff and Malcolm are together at the English court. Malcolm tests Macduff's royalty by pretending to have a long list of vices that would make him even worse than Macbeth as king. As Macduff turns away in despair, Malcolm reveals that he is really a virtuous man, and now accepts Macduff's integrity. With England's support, Malcolm and Macduff agree to rid of Scotland of Macbeth. We hear about the healing work of Edward the Confessor. Ross comes with news of opposition to Macbeth in Scotland, and then speaks of the slaughter of Macduff's wife and family. The grief-stricken Macduff vows to find Macbeth and kill him.
