He looks very confident in the way he is posed .
2. The picture of Peter in all of the Russia ones have no people in it, but the one in Netherlands you can see all the people. Also it looks like the ones in Russia, Peter looks more important.
3. I do not think that they could be accomplished as well without force. Force made them stronger and more unified.

1. I believe these statues of Peter the Great characterize he was serious, and they try to portray he was serious about his work as a king as well. Each one of them shows him doing a different action, all of which have to do with some form of exploring or activity. Also, he looks powerful/tall.
2. The one from the Netherlands does not look quite as realistic and they gave him longer hair. Other than that, he has the same outfit/dress code on. 3. I believe that in some ways he could have not used force, he could have tried to talk with the people more/apply laws. Honestly, I believe that you should be obedient and pay respects to your king even if either way, there are positive outcomes.

Do you think they could have been accomplished without force? If so, how? Do you think that the ends justify the means? In other words, it is acceptable to behave in a cruel and/or unjust manner if by the end one has reached a result from which many people benefit.

I don't think they could of been accomplished without force because there were probably a few parts in the country where people did not approve of him therefore they did not want to listen to him.

He seems very strong and powerful in all of them. He is depicted as very large and is performing hands-on tasks. The statues coney a sense of accomplishment, ambition, and determination.

In this statue, Peter is smaller than he is in the other statues. Additionally, he seems less perfect physically. He also isn't doing anything in particular, he is just standing.

I definitely think Russia's success could have been accomplished without the level of force that Peter used. A stern sort of determination is necessary, but pure cruelty is not. For example, instead of simply forcing everyone to do 25 years of service in the military, he could require less, explain to his people why it was even necessary in the first place, and not require quite as much during peacetimes.

1. In all of them he was really large/ tall. Mr. Bader said he was 6 foot 9, so this may symbolize his actual height. However, this might also symbolize his power.
2. In the Netherlands one he almost seems untidy. His shirt isn't buttoned correctly and his jacket is too small. However, it seems that even in this one he is confident and hold himself in high self-esteem.
3. I believe that Peter could have accomplished what he did without the force he used. Although he used his force in a cruel manner, the fact he used any at all separated him from the other rulers before him, so he needed a little just not too much.

In the one from the Netherlands, he's simply standing there, as opposed to the Russian ones (though one Russian one shows him sitting).
3. Perhaps they could have been accomplished in other ways, like if rewards were offered or something as opposed to using cruelty. If he was terribly cruel, it doesn't seem completely right that he used these means though they benefitted.

One of the statues shows him building things, and I feel like that is especially trying to show that he "built" the modern Russia.
2. In this statue, he is a bit smaller and is merely standing. He is not on a horse or ship like in the other statues.
3. With some of his changes such as changing the "dress code", I think he could have been more lenient with his subjects. However, I think it was okay for him to enforce the mandatory 25 year service for it is a law.
